Leander Paes, 45, Leaves Twitter In Awe With Acrobatics At Australian Open. Watch

Leander Paes suffered a second-round exit at the Australian Open 2019 on Tuesday after he along with his Australian partner Samantha Stosur lost 6-4, 4-6 (8-10) to Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Robert Farah in the mixed doubles. With this, India’s campaign concluded in Melbourne. Despite the loss, 45-year-old Leander Paes didn’t fail to impress the tennis fans from across the globe with some jaw-dropping acrobatics on court. Sharing a video of him in action, Paes said on Twitter: “What an unbelievable sport we play! Great match and thank you to @bambamsam30 @CraigTiley @AustralianOpen Live your dreams everyday #AusOpen.”

Paes and Stosur had won the first set 6-4 but lost the momentum in the subsequent set and lost to the fifth seeds with a similar scoreline. Groenefeld and Farah then clinched the tie-breaker with a scoreline of 8-10.

The Indian-Australian wildcards had started their Australian Open campaign with a 6-4, 7-5 win against Wesley Koolhof and Kveta Peschke on Saturday.

As Paes shared the video of an enthralling rally in which he saved a point with remarkable fitness, fans on social media were left astonished.

“@Leander Great effort & salute to Level of your fitness Sir extremely inspirational for youngsters,” a user replied on the tweet.

Another one joined in, saying: “Legend .. do you have a nickname yet ? Like Flash or Lightning McPace.”

A fan called him young and requested him to “keep flying”, while another used a GOAT emoticon to term him ‘greatest of all time’.

Earlier in the day, Petra Kvitova swept into her first Grand Slam semi-final since a terrifying knife attack almost ended her career and the fairy-tale runs of Stefanos Tsitsipas and Danielle Collins continued at the Australian Open.

INDvsNZ: India has upper hand against New Zealand, when and where to watch match

Shubman Gill Gears Up For ODI Series Against New Zealand. Watch

Shubman Gill might make his India debut in the One Day International series against New Zealand, starting on Wednesday, as the team seeks a perfect combination ahead of the forthcoming ICC World Cup. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a video of 19-year-old Punjab-based batsman practising hard in the nets. “Team India’s latest recruit Shubman Gill was seen sweating out in the nets at his first training session with the Senior Men’s team,” the BCCI captioned the video on Twitter.

Recently, India registered their first-ever bilateral ODI series win in Australia. Former captain MS Dhoni batted at number four and shared a match-winning stand of 121 runs with Kedar Jadhav to help India win the third ODI by seven wickets and clinch the three-match series 2-1.

India had dropped their number four batsman Ambati Rayudu for the decider match in Melbourne. Rayudu wasn’t much successful in the previous two ODIs as he lost his wicket for zero and 24 in successive matches.

While a majority of fans enjoyed Dhoni batting at number four, India skipper Virat Kohli claimed the wicketkeeper-batsman is better suited for number five.

“I personally and the management felt that number 5 is the most logical and ideal position for him and the way he batted at Adelaide, he was comfortable in that position and was more himself in that game and from then on he built on to this knock today,” Kohli said after India’s win in Melbourne.

In the three-match ODI series, 37-year-old Dhoni accumulated 193 runs, including three 50-plus knocks.

Meanwhile, fans on social media have suggested Kohli to play Gill at number four.

The BCCI had called up Gill and all-rounder Vijay Shankar for India’s Australia and New Zealand tours after KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya were ordered to return back home in disgrace over comments made about women on a TV show.

Watch: Brendon McCullum’s Incredible Boundary-Line Save Sparks Debate On Twitter

Brendon McCullum produced a stunning effort at long-on to deny Sydney Sixers a boundary during a Big Bash League (BBL) 2019 match against Brisbane Heat at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Sunday night. However, the New Zealander’s spectacular save caused a stir among fans, many of whom took to Twitter to debate about the legality of the effort. The former New Zealand skipper’s remarkable athletic display was the highlight of the day for Brisbane Heat as they were outplayed by the Sixers in a telling 79-run defeat.

Despite some fine performances in the match, the spotlight was firmly on McCullum’s fielding effort.

The incident took place in the 16th over of Sydney Sixers’ innings when James Vince, who blasted 75 off 46 balls, skied his shot towards the long-on boundary.

McCullum initially took the catch but had to lob the ball in the air as lost his balance and fell backwards over the rope. The Kiwi then quickly propelled himself back into the field of play and while he was still in mid-air, he managed to parry the ball back.

No part of his body was touching the ground when he made contact with the ball.

McCullum’s effort sparked confusion among cricket diehards on Twitter.

According the previous rules, McCullum’s effort would have been ruled as a boundary.

However in October 2013, an update was made to the Laws of Cricket, according to which the fielder’s first contact with the ball must be made inside the boundary. If he is airborne when making this first contact, he must have taken off from within the boundary.

The ball then can be fielded or caught, as long as the fielder is never in contact with both the ball and the ground outside the boundary at the same time.

Since McCullum leapt from inside the field of play while making the first contact and even though he was outside of the rope before his second touch, he was in mid-air and therefore within his rights to field the ball under the revised rule.

When And Where To Watch It LIVE Stream In India

Chandra Grahan Or Super Blood Wolf Moon Lunar Eclipse 2019 begins at 10:11 am in India.

New Delhi:

While India will miss its date with one of the rare celestial events called the Super Blood Wolf Moon Lunar Eclipse (Chandra Grahan) today. Indians, however, can watch the spectacle through LIVE Stream on timeanddate.com and the Virtual Telescope Project as there is no official live stream available from NASA. The Super Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse can be seen from 10:11 am. It will last for one hour and 2 minutes. The moon will appear reddish in colour and will be a sight to behold for skywatchers.

The Super Blood Wolf Moon Lunar Eclipse will be seen from Europe, Africa and the America and no special technical equipment like binoculars or telescope would be required for the same.

The full Moon will appear bigger than normal because it is closer to the Earth – about 222,000 miles (358,000 kilometers) away – which earns it the nickname “super Moon.”

Other monikers for it are “Wolf Moon,” a traditional way of coining an eclipse in the month of January, and a “Blood Moon” because of its rusty, red color. Hence the name for this year’s event: a “super blood wolf Moon.”

At the peak of the eclipse, and if the night skies are clear of clouds, Venus and Jupiter should be shining brightly in the night sky.

Super Blood Wolf Moon Timings across the world:

-Monday at 0334 GMT, or 4:34 in the morning in France or 10:34 pm in Quebec, the partial eclipse will begin as the Moon passes into Earth’s shadow.

-In the United States, the edge of the Moon will begin to fall into shadow at about 7:33 pm on the West Coast and 10:33 pm on the East Coast, according to NASA.

-From 0441 to 0543 GMT: for an hour and two minutes, the Moon will be entirely in Earth’s shadow. But the Moon will not be invisible: it will appear tinted in hues of red, orange and pink.

-At 0651 GMT, the Moon will be completely out of the Earth’s shadow.

Where will the Super Blood Wolf Moon be visible from?

Europe and West Africa will have a good view of the eclipse, but not all the way until the end. Eastern Europe will see the beginning of totality, but not the end. North Africa and West Africa should see the end of totality, but will miss the final phases of the eclipse.

The entire eclipse should be visible in North America, Central America and South America, as well as France, Belgium and Spain.

That is, as long as the view is not obscured by clouds.

Why will Super Blood Wolf Moon appear red?

During a lunar eclipse, the Moon appears red because the light of the Sun no longer directly illuminates it, since Earth is passing in between the Moon and Sun.

“The color is due to Rayleigh scattering — where the Sun’s blue light is scattered off molecules in Earth’s atmosphere — which also happens at sunsets,” explained the Royal Astronomical Society of Britain.

“The Sun’s red light is scattered much less by air, and is bent by Earth’s atmosphere in a process called refraction, traveling all the way through it to light up the Moon’s surface.”

Super Blood Wolf Moon will be the last eclipse this decade

Total or partial lunar eclipses happen at least twice a year on average, Florent Deleflie, an astronomer at the Observatory of Paris-PSL told AFP. It’s just that they are not visible everywhere.

It’s a rare event when a total lunar eclipse is visible on so many parts of the Earth’s land mass, as is the case Monday.

Europeans last saw a total lunar eclipse in July 2018. The next chance for a glimpse at a lunar eclipse will be in 2022, but the entire continent won’t be able to see the totality of a lunar eclipse again until 2029.

North Americans may get their next glimpse of a blood moon in 2021 along the West coast and 2022 on the East coast.

Watch: Spider-Cam Narrowly Misses Chair Umpire’s Head After Malfunction At Australian Open

The drama unfolded after Barty upset Sharapova 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 at the Rod Laver Arena.

In the immediate aftermath the spider-cam, which hovers above the court on a cable, moving vertically and horizontally to offer an overhead perspective, attempted to swoop down closer to the action.

Instead the camera crashed into the sun shield of shocked umpire Alison Hughes, removing it completely and narrowly missing her head.

Stunned by the spider-cam malfunction, fans took to Twitter to express their concern.

Another social media user Richard Ings said people should not underplay how serious the incident was.

Barty, backed by a boisterous Australian crowd, staged a stunning turnaround in the biggest match of her career, beating the 2008 champion to reach her first Grand Slam quarterfinal.

After dropping the first set, the 15th seeded Australian registered a thrilling victory, capped with a dramatic final game in front of a packed home crowd.

She became just the fourth Australian female quarter-finalist at Melbourne Park, and the first since Jelena Dokic made a thrilling run to the last eight in 2009.

With Alex de Minaur, Alex Bolt and Alexei Popyrin all falling in third round of the men’s draw, Barty is the sole Australian standing at the Australian Open.

The rare trifecta of a total lunar eclipse, super blood moon, and a “Wolf Moon” is here. It is particularly important because it is going to be the last total lunar eclipse until May 2021. So, get ready to feast your eyes on this epic astronomical event. Sadly, for India, some parts of Asia, and Australia, there isn’t going to be anything special in the skies as they are going to be facing the Sun at the time of the lunar eclipse. Rest of the world will get to see some of the eclipse at moon rise or moon set depending on the time in their region. Read on to find everything you need to know about this super blood wolf moon and why is it called that.

Lunar Eclipse aka Super Blood Wolf Moon 2019 time

According to NASA, the complete lunar eclipse event is going to last three hours and 17 minutes, including the partial eclipse and total eclipse, whereas the total lunar eclipse will only be visible for one hour and two minutes. As per a report in Space.com, the beginning of the super blood wolf moon, when the partial lunar eclipse starts, is set for 7:33pm PT on January 20 (3:33am GMT, January 21 or 9:03am IST, January 21). The full lunar eclipse will start at 8:41pm PT on January 20 (4:41am GMT, January 21 or 10:11am IST, January 21) and end at 9:43pm PT (5:43am GMT or 11:13am IST). What is a full lunar eclipse and why is it called super blood wolf moon?

A total lunar eclipse is an astronomical event that happens when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are perfectly lined up and the Earth blocks all of Sun’s light from reaching the Moon. Also, a lunar eclipse only takes place when there is a full Moon.

The Super Moon part of the name comes from the size and brightness of the Moon. During a Super Moon, the Moon is brighter and larger than normal because of its distance from Earth. During its rotation cycle, there are days when Moon is closer than usual to our planet and there are days when it is farther.

The Blood part comes from the colour of the Moon during a total lunar eclipse. Basically, when the sunlight passes through Earth’s atmosphere, the shorter blue wavelengths of sunlight are scattered outside the Earth’s shadow and the longer red wavelengths are refracted towards the Moon, making it look bloody or reddish. Thus, the name Super Blood Moon.

But, since this particular total lunar eclipse is falling in the winter, it gets the “wolf” part of the name. Wolf Moon is a nickname given to the winter Moon by the Native American tribes after the wolves who howl as they hunt during the winter.

How can I watch the Super Blood Wolf Moon and is it safe?

Unlike a solar eclipse (unless you are Donald Trump), the lunar eclipses were perfectly safe to watch without any special glasses. You can head over to a place where you can clearly see the Moon during a total lunar eclipse, and you are good to go. Access to a telescope will certainly make things better.
