Lenovo Launches ThinkPad X1 Extreme With DolbyVision HDR Display and Nvidia Graphics at IFA 2018

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme to be available from September

Lenovo has added a new member to its ThinkPad family of laptops, called the ThinkPad X1 Extreme and just as the name suggests, it aims to offer everything we know and love about ThinkPad line but with added multimedia and gaming capabilities. The ThinkPad X1 Extreme introduces a new 15-inch form-factor and a discrete Nvidia graphics card while still maintaining the slim and light profile. The laptop will be available from September starting at $1,859 (roughly Rs. 1,27,600) while the Core i9 version of the laptop will be available come December.

The X1 Extreme aims to blend consumer and enterprise features into a single machine. The design is very familiar to the X1 Carbon and just like it, the X1 Extreme too features four layers of reinforced carbon fibre for outer structure while an aluminium alloy is used for the bottom cover to help dissipate heat.

The laptop is highly configurable too. It supports Intel 8th generation Core i7 CPUs with vPro, with the i9 option coming later in the year. The unit that was shown to us was running an Intel Core i7-8850H six-core, multi-threaded CPU with a base clock speed of 2.6GHz. Other components include upto 64GB of DDR4 RAM (2,666MHz), dual PCIe M.2 SSDs in RAID (up to 2TB total capacity) and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti with MaxQ and 4GB of GDDR5 RAM. The 15.6-inch display goes up to a 4K resolution with DolbyVision HDR support, touch input and supports a rechargeable Lenovo Pen Pro stylus. It’s also available with a Full-HD, non-touch IPS panel which has 300nits of brightness.

Physical connectivity includes two USB 3.1 ports, two USB Type-C ports (Thunderbolt 3), a headphone and microphone combo socket, HDMI and a SD card reader. For security, the X1 Extreme supports Smartcard, a fingerprint sensor, IR camera for Windows Hello, ThinkShutter camera cover for privacy, Kensington lock slot and TPM 2.0 module. Wireless connectivity includes Bluetooth 5.0 and dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac with 2×2 MIMO antennas. The laptops also support Dolby Audio and Dolby Atmos for headphones. The X1 Extreme measures up to 18.7mm in thickness and weighs up to 1.8kg. The laptop is rated to deliver up to 15 hours of battery life with the 80WHr battery. It also supports RapidCharge which is said to offer an 80 percent charge in one hour.

Lenovo ThinkPad P1 ‘Lightest and Thinnest’ Laptop With Intel Xeon Processor Launched


Lenovo has launched two new products – ThinkPad P1 and ThinkPad P72 – for professionals looking for powerful hardware. The Lenovo P1 workstation notebook is touted to be the thinnest and lightest laptop by the company, measuring at 18.4mm and weighing at 1.7kgs. Both the laptops are powered by the 8th-gen Intel Xeon processors. The ThinkPad P72, successor of last year’s ThinkPad P71, is also a powerhouse and it brings top of the class hardware as well. Both the devices will go on sale in the end of August.

Starting with the ThinkPad P71, as mentioned, its big USP is its slim form factor and light weight. The ThinkPad P71 is the lightest and the thinnest laptop from the company yet. It sports a 15.6-inch touchscreen display with 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution, and is powered by the 8th-gen Intel Xeon E-2176M six core processor with vPro (2.70GHz, up to 4.40GHz with Turbo Boost Technology, 12MB Cache) paired with up to Nvidia Quadro P2000 graphic card. It offers 64GB of DDR4 memory, and 4TB storage.

The Lenovo ThinkPad P71 sports a black carbon fibre finish, and has passed 12 military-grade testing requirements and more than 200 quality checks. It supports two Thunderbolt ports, as well as more traditional connectors like USB 3.1 Gen 1 and HDMI. It runs on Windows 10, supports Bluetooth 5.0 and offers battery life of up to 13 hours depending on the usage. Lenovo ThinkPad P1 is priced in the market at $1,949 (roughly Rs. 135,700).

Coming to the Lenovo ThinkPad P72, this one sports a slightly larger 17.3-inch 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) display. It is powered by the 8th gen Intel Xeon E-2186M six core processor with vPro (2.90GHz, up to 4.80GHz with Turbo Boost Technology, 12MB Cache) paired with up to NVIDIA Quadro P5200 16GB graphics card. It offers up to 128GB DDR4 memory, and 6TB storage options.

Lenovo ThinkPad P72 will be available by the end of August

It comes with a fingerprint reader support and facial recognition with Windows Hello support. Dimensions are at 416mm x 281 mm x 24.5mm-29.4mm, and the laptop weighs a hefty 3.4 kgs. Ports include two Thunderbolt 3 ports, three USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, one HDMI 2.0, a 4-in-1 SD card reader, and a Mini DisplayPort as well. Pre-loaded software includes Lenovo Vantage, McAfee LiveSafe, (30-day trial), and Microsoft Office 2016 (trial version). The Lenovo ThinkPad P72 is priced at $1,799 (roughly Rs. 125,400) respectively.

At the NXT BLD conference, Lenovo has announced the ThinkPad P52 – a 15.6-inch laptop with VR-ready features and killer specifications. Key specifications include up to an 8th Gen Intel Xeon hexa-core processor, an Nvidia Quadro P3200 GPU, along with up to 6TB of storage, and up to 128GB of RAM. These specs make the Lenovo Thinkpad P52 an ideal mobile workstation for all those developers who need a monster device to create VR-related or 3D content on the go. Lenovo hasn’t revealed the pricing as of yet, but it plans to make it available later this month.

The Lenovo ThinkPad P52 sports a 15.6-inch 4K/UHD 400 nits touchscreen display; however, there is an option for 1920×1080 pixel, 300 nits display with 72 percent NTSC as well, reports Digital Trends. As mentioned, it is powered by up to 8th Gen Intel Xeon hexa-core processor paired with up to Nvidia Quadro P3200 GPU. Support for up to 128GB DDR4 (depends on combination of ECC vs. non-ECC) is included, and storage offered is up to 6TB.

While the ThinkPad P52 is a powerhouse on paper, design wise it sports a basic black body and has a functional design that is seen on all ThinkPad P series laptops. Ports include three USB 3.1 Type-A, two USB-C/Thunderbolt, one HDMI 2.0, one mini DisplayPort 1.4, and a SD card reader. Connectivity options include Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5, optional Cat 9 4G LTE, The dimensions of the Lenovo ThinkPad P52 are at 377x252x25mm, and the laptop is hefty starting at 2.5 kilograms.

Lenovo will provide a choice of five operating system options for developing needs: Windows 10 Pro for Workstations, Windows 10 Pro, Windows 10 Home, Ubuntu, or Red Hat Linux. Lenovo Vantage and a trial of Microsoft Office 2016 will be pre-loaded. The ThinkPad P52 comes with an infrared camera for facial recognition in Windows Hello, and an additional 720p webcam as well.
