Class 7 student hanged herself at her home in West Delhi.
A Class 7 student allegedly committed suicide in West Delhi on Saturday, when her mother was away at work. She had scribbled her teacher’s name on her hands and a note that she did not want to go to school anymore.
“Lord Krishna, I am coming,” said one message on her palm. In another, she wrote for her mother: “I love you”.
A suicide note has also been found, the police said.
The 12 year-old girl was found hanging from the ceiling fan at her home.
“On her palms and hands she wrote that she did not want to go to school any more. She apologised to her mother and grandmother and said she was going to meet Lord Krishna,” senior police officer Madhup Tiwari told news agency IANS.
The girl’s mother, a lawyer, last saw her alive when she was leaving for the Tis Hazari Court. She said the girl had refused to go to school.
When she returned at 4 PM, she found her daughter’s body.
“My daughter complained that the teacher scolded her every day. The same teacher rebuked and humiliated her on Friday for 10 minutes in the biology lab. She cried in the school bathroom after the episode,” her mother told news agency IANS.
“She had been insisting that I change her school but I did not know how serious the situation was. I would never imagine she would commit suicide,” the mother said, sobbing.
The school management said in a statement said it was fully cooperating with the police and was also carrying out an internal inquiry.
“As of now we are not at liberty to disclose any details which may jeopardise the police investigation of the case,” the statement said.
The police are waiting for the girl’s autopsy report and say they are speaking to her classmates.

A probe has been ordered after the nursing student killed self. (Representational)
A nursing student of a state-run institute in Patna allegedly killed herself after failing in four of the six subjects in an examination, triggering protests by a section of her batchmates on Tuesday, officials said.
Police took into preventive custody some of the protesting students of the nursing college attached to the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), while the health department ordered an investigation into the incident.
Khushbu Kumari (20), a first-year student of IGIMS College of Nursing, hanged herself on Monday after she failed in four of the six subjects in the internal assessment examination.
Soon after knowing about her results, Khushbu said she would commit suicide in front of some other students who went to the hostel warden and the nursing college principal and informed them about it, IGIMS Medical Superintendent-cum-spokesperson Dr Manish Mandal told PTI.
After returning, they found Khushbu hanging from the ceiling fan, Dr Mandal said.
“She was immediately rushed to the hospital where she died around 1:30 am (in the intervening night of Monday-Tuesday). The body has been sent to her home in Arwal district after completing the formalities of post-mortem,” he said.
“A handful of nursing students” demonstrated demanding action against the nursing college principal Anuja Daniel, Dr Mandal said.
“The functioning of not a single department of the hospital was hampered due to the protest by a handful of nursing students except the OPD which was hampered for around 30 minutes,” he said.
City Superintendent of Police (Central) D Amarkesh said, “An FIR is being filed on the basis of the magistrate’s statement in this regard. Some of nursing students have been taken into preventive custody. They will be released later.”
Meanwhile, Health Department Principal Secretary Sanjay Kumar said a three-member committee has been set up to probe the incident.
“We have taken suo motu cognisance of the incident of a nursing student’s suicide. The committee, which will be headed by joint secretary Kaushal Kishore, will submit its report within a week,” Kumar told reporters in Patna.
He said the panel would probe the circumstances in which the incident took place and also suggest measures to ensure that such incident does not recur in future.
The student was not allowed to go home in the school bus and was forced to stay back in office
A school in Maharashtra’s Latur district allegedly forced a seven-year-old boy to stay back as his parents had not paid the fees. A case has been registered against officials of the school.
The alleged incident took place at an English-medium school in Udgir on Friday.
Parents of the student, who is in Class 2, had not paid a fee of Rs 12,000 for the current year as well as arrears of Rs 6,000 from the last year, a police officer said.
On Friday, school authorities allegedly did not let the boy go home by the school bus and forced him to sit in the school’s office.
Eventually, his father reached the school and took him away.
He then lodged a complaint with the police against the concerned teacher, secretary and director of the school, the police official said.
A case under IPC section 342 (wrongful confinement) was registered but nobody has been arrested as the probe is underway, the police official said.
Richard Liu, one of China’s wealthiest men and the CEO of e-commerce giant JD.com, is accused of rape.
It was a Thursday evening in late August and a crowd had gathered at the Origami sushi restaurant in Minneapolis. One guest, a 21-year-old female Chinese undergraduate at the University of Minnesota, was initially expecting a dinner in honor of volunteers like herself.
Instead, she found herself surrounded by more than a dozen Chinese executives, male attendees of a doctoral management program for which she had been volunteering. Among them was Charlie Yao, a Chinese businessman she had met days earlier — and who had invited her to the dinner. Yao asked her to take a seat next to Richard Liu, one of China’s wealthiest men and the CEO of e-commerce giant JD.com Inc. The student’s male guest was relegated to another table, alongside the executives’ assistants.
This account is based on documents, the female student’s statement to the police and her WeChat messages to a friend, which were reviewed by Bloomberg. Her attorney, Wil Florin, also talked to Bloomberg. The role played by Yao in inviting the student to the dinner, outlined here for the first time, sheds new light on the events that unfolded on Aug. 30 and culminated early the following morning, when the young woman alleges that she was raped by Liu in her apartment. Liu has denied the allegations. Yao, who has not been accused of wrongdoing by authorities, couldn’t be reached for comment.
Over the course of the evening, wine flowed freely. Liu and other men at the table repeatedly toasted the woman, using the Chinese phrase “ganbei,” or “dry cup,” a strong encouragement in Chinese social and business settings to leave one’s glass empty. To her mind, she was being “forced” to drink alcohol, she wrote to a friend via the WeChat messaging tool the following day. “Why didn’t one of these wealthy older CEOs act like a mature CEO and protect her, rather than culturally coerce her to drink?” Florin said.
Liu, who was arrested the following evening and held for almost 17 hours before being released with no charges filed, returned to China soon after. “This version of events is filled with unsubstantiated information, from sources who clearly have an agenda,” said Jill Brisbois, Liu’s attorney. “Because of the ongoing investigation, Richard cannot defend himself in the media. We would urge everyone to wait for the prosecutor’s determination instead of continuing to present a one-sided and inaccurate narrative. When all of the relevant evidence is disclosed, Richard’s innocence and the full story will become apparent.” A JD.com representative didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment and instead referred to a previously released statement, which says in part that Liu had been “released without any charges, and without requirement for bail.”
The Minneapolis Police Department completed its investigation and in September turned the case over to prosecutors in the Hennepin County Attorney’s office, the county attorney said at the time. Prosecutors are now weighing whether to file criminal charges. In a criminal case, prosecutors must prove guilt “beyond a reasonable doubt,” in legal parlance. In civil cases, the plaintiff need only show it’s more likely than not that the accused committed the wrongful act.
News of the rape allegations has sent shock waves across the globe and adds to concerns surrounding the role of men in corporate leadership. In a little more than a year since the #MeToo movement took hold in the U.S., allegations of sexual harassment and sexual assault have been lodged against more than 400 men, the majority of them Americans, and have ended the careers of prominent businessmen, journalists and entertainers.
Investors in JD.com have taken notice, and the company’s stock has dropped 33 percent since the end of August. Liu’s outsize control of voting rights closely links the company’s fate to his own, analysts have said. “When people think about JD, they think about Richard Liu because he is the visionary founder,” said Mitchell Kim, an analyst at Kim Eng Securities in Hong Kong. “Investors pay attention to the name and we all assume that he’s the one that directs the strategic vision of the company.” Kim added that, “if he were to get indicted, there would be further backlash against the stock.”
Liu had been in the U.S. as part of a doctoral program, run by the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management and China’s Tsinghua University, geared toward Chinese titans of industry. Much of the coursework happens in Beijing, with a culminating residential component in the U.S. The University of Minnesota declined to comment for this story.
Another participant was Yao, Chairman of Shenzhen-based Jumbo Sheen Enterprises Group, an equity investment and fund management group, according to a document profiling students in the doctoral program. In her police report, the accuser said she met Yao earlier in the week through her role as volunteer coordinator of organized jogs. He earned her trust over several conversations and offered her a job at his company after her graduation, she said. Liu had asked Yao to ensure that the female student attend the dinner, according to Florin, of the law firm Florin Roebig. Yao didn’t respond to emails seeking comment. A receptionist at Jumbo Sheen’s Shenzhen headquarters said that Yao is traveling and declined to say when he would return. Yao is also on the board of Rici Healthcare Holdings. A Rici representative said the company couldn’t comment on this matter.
According to the female student’s WeChat messages and her statement to local police, dinner attendees drank copious amounts of alcohol. Her friend and Liu’s assistant, neither of whom is fully identified in the materials reviewed by Bloomberg, were asked to make two wine runs over the course of the evening, purchasing 32 bottles in total, according to the student’s attorney and photos and documents reviewed by Bloomberg.
At some point in the evening, the student’s male friend — also a volunteer — was called away to another dinner, a half-hour’s drive away, by another executive in the management program, Florin said. Later that night, she departed with Liu and traveled with him in a limousine to a location she couldn’t identify. In the back of the car, he tried to kiss her and pull off her clothes, she said in her statement. “You have wife, and you have kids,” she told him. “Don’t do this, I don’t want to do this.” After she repeatedly asked him to take her back to her apartment, he relented.
Some details in the police report were previously reported by the Minneapolis Star Tribune and Reuters.
Upon arrival at her apartment, she exited the vehicle, followed by Liu, who told his driver and assistant to wait in the car. Once inside, he tried to take her clothes off and throw her on the bed, and she was able to “escape from him” briefly, she said. She told him no and resisted his advances several times, according to her statement.
Liu then pressured her to take a shower with him. When she declined, he tried to pull her into the shower against her will. He emerged from the shower and proceeded to her bedroom, while she went into the restroom, locked the door and changed clothes that had become wet from the shower. When she came out, she found him naked on her bed. He refused to leave. Eventually, she said, “he threw me onto the bed” and “he held my shoulders so that I can’t move.” From there, he proceeded to have intercourse with her against her will, she told police.
She said she kept her bed sheets as evidence.

SRM Institute of Science and Technology students protested alleging inaction by the college staff.
Nearly a thousand woman students protested last night at a college near Chennai after a student was allegedly sexually harassed in the hostel by a worker. A second-year undergraduate student at the SRM Institute of Science and Technology in Kancheepuram district said she was sexually harassed by a male worker in the hostel lift on Thursday afternoon.
“The male gardener masturbated at her in the lift. She had pressed the 4th floor button and he, the 6th. But the man moved the lift to the 8th floor. He did not let her go until she screamed,” a woman student told NDTV.
Videos shared by students on campus show hundreds of students pushing a barricade and marching in the campus, raising slogans. Another video shows women students breaking open the gates of the hostel block. The hostel gates were allegedly locked to keep the students in.
“University officials blame it on our dressing, calling it inappropriate. They do not take our complaints seriously. In the past too, there have been instances of male workers peeping into our rooms, intruding into our privacy,” a student leader said.
SRM University Vice Chancellor denied the allegations of inaction and said the administration would look into the complaint. “Students are discussing with us. Whatever the matter is, it will be taken care of. If there is a matter, it will be inquired,” Mr Sancheti told news agency PTI. In a video of his meeting with the protesting students, he is seen telling a girl, “Don’t try to make an issue out of nothing”.
Though the hostel warden told NDTV that the gardener has been arrested, the police denied this and said they are yet to receive any formal complaint.
“Our enquiry reveals that the 38-year-old male toilet cleaner, a new appointee, was accompanied by two woman workers and he got confused operating the lift,” a Kancheepuram police officer told NDTV. The officer indicated that the allegation seems to be a “ploy” to get today’s exams cancelled.
“Their last exam was originally on Thursday but due to rain, they were postponed to Friday and many had already booked flight and train tickets to leave home on Friday for vacation,” the officer said.
The students have denied the claims made by the police. “Police officials are here to protect the university management. It is a total lie. The management is only suppressing it,” a student said.

20-year-old Sruthi Palaniappan has been elected President of Harvard University’s students’ body
An Indian-American woman has been elected as the president of the powerful student’s body of the prestigious Harvard University.
Sruthi Palaniappan, 20, whose parents migrated to the US from Chennai in 1992, was elected as president of the Harvard University Undergraduate Council.
Her running mate Julia Huesa, 20, was elected as vice president, according to an announcement by the Undergraduate Council Election Commission.
Ms Palaniappan said that Ms Huesa and her planned to work on improving the Council’s communication with the student body in their initial days in office.
“I think from the onset, better structuring the way we communicate with students is something that we need to already set the tone and plan for,” she said.
“I think we’re going to work on it before we even leave for break and just get off the ground running,” she told Harvard Crimson, the student newspaper of the varsity.
Ms Palaniappan was the youngest delegate at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia in July 2016.
According to the report, Ms Palaniappan and Ms Huesa garnered nearly 41.5 per cent of the votes as against their nearest opponent Nadine M Khoury and Arnav Agrawal, who received 26.6 per cent of the votes.
They ran their campaign under the slogan “Make Harvard Home”.
The duo, a long-time member of the Undergraduate Council, are scheduled to take over from the outgoing president Catherine L Zhang ’19 and vice president Nicholas D Boucher ’19.
Ms Palaniappan is currently the council’s education committee chair.
