After outplaying the Windies in the first Test, confident team India will aim for a clean sweep when they take on the visitors in the second and final Test starting from Friday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, in Hyderabad. India thrashed the inexperienced Windies team, winning the first Test by an innings and 272 runs inside three days. Skipper Virat Kohli and his team will once again look to overpower the visitors, which is unlikely to put up a challenge against the No 1 Test side in their own backyard. India are likely to stick to the same playing eleven as India announced the same 12-member team for the second Test. The only cause of concern for the Indian team management will be the form of vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane, who failed to fire in the first Test. On the other hand, the West Indies will have to come out with something special to challenge the confident Indian team. Batsmen for the visitors succumbed to the Indian bowlers in Rajkot as the team failed to touch the 200-run mark in both the innings. The Caribbean batsmen will have to show patience in Hyderabad, unlike the last Test where they seemed to be in a hurry to leave the pitch with unwanted shots. A major relief for the visitors will be the return of pacer Kemar Roach and all rounder Jason Holder, who were not in the playing XI for the first Test.

Netflix Streaming Consumed Nearly 15 Percent of Global Downstream Internet Traffic in H1 2018: Study

If you thought Netflix is only raising up your Internet bills, a recent report claims that the video streaming service is actually eating up a sizeable chunk of the entire Internet bandwidth, globally.

According to Sandvine’s Global Internet Phenomena Report, Netflix is the number one downstream application worldwide with almost 15 percent of global Internet downstream traffic in the first half of 2018. In the Americas, the share tops 19.1 percent for total traffic, followed by Prime Video at 7.7 percent and YouTube at 7.5 percent.

The report further claims that Netflix is also the most efficient video streaming service in terms of bandwidth usage.

Following Netflix is HTTP media streams, consuming 13.1 percent of all traffic, YouTube at 11.4 percent, Web-browsing at 7.8 percent, and MPEG transport streams at 4.4 percent.

Netflix was recently in the news by collaborating with Airtel for bundled offers. While the offers for postpaid and broadband subscribers were first announced in August, Airtel only this month started rolling out the offer for its postpaid subscribers. For now, there is no information on when it will become available for broadband subscribers.

For now, Airtel appears to be offering a 3-month Netflix subscription to subscribers with postpaid plans worth Rs. 499 or above per month. This means, apart from Rs. 499, subscribers on the Rs. 649, Rs. 799, Rs. 1,199, Rs. 1,599, Rs. 1,999, and Rs. 2,999 plans will get access to the subscription. The 3-month subscription gives access to the base Rs. 500 Netflix plan, with single-screen access and SD quality videos.

Google Maps Gets New ‘Commute’ Tab, Streaming Music Integration, and More

Google Maps Gets New 'Commute' Tab, Streaming Music Integration, and More

Google Maps now has several new features for daily commutes

Google Maps was spotted testing a ‘Commute’ tab on Android early last month, and it was seen to replace the Driving and Transit (aka Transport) tabs. On Monday, Google announced that the feature is now rolling out globally for both Android and iOS users, guiding them to Google Play and App Store respectively to update their apps for the latest feature. The new tab is meant to help users ‘take control of their daily commute.’

In a blog post on Monday, the search giant said the new Commute tab on the Google Maps apps for Android and iOS gives users one-tap access to live traffic and transit information, personalised to the user’s daily commute. Users will be shown if the day’s commute will be normal, and will suggest alternative routes in case there is a delay spotted. Android users get an additional feature over iOS ones – they will get delay and disruption notifications while en-route.

Google also announced support for ‘mixed-mode commutes’, for people who use more than one form of transport (both driving and public transit) in their commutes. These users will see ‘when to leave’ information about each leg of their trip, and an ETA will be calculated taking into account the several factors involved.

The newly announced update to Google Maps also lets transit users in 80 regions across the globe see exactly where their bus or train is, in real-time. In Sydney, Google has additionally partnered with Transport New South Wales to show just how full the bus or train is, as well. This last feature will make its way to more cities across the globe soon, Google added.

Finally, Google has also announced music streaming integration into Google Maps – users will see controls for Apple Music, Google Play Music, and Spotify, right within the Google Maps app. On Android, users will also be able to browse through Spotify content with a easy to use interface.

OpenSignal Finds Smartphone Video Streaming Experience ‘Poor’ in India

Despite video streaming on smartphones gaining momentum in India, the country still lags far behind on global standards – falling in the poor territory characterised by frequent stalling during video playback and long loading times even for low-resolution video, a new report revealed on Tuesday.

When it comes to overall mobile video experience, India joins Iran and the Philippines below the “Fair” threshold into “Poor” territory (0-40), said London-based wireless coverage mapping company OpenSignal.

“Our tests sample video at multiple resolutions accessed from multiple content providers, and they weigh three main criteria: the load time before the video begins playing, the stalling rate characterized by stops and stutters in the video playback, and the level of picture resolution,” OpenSignal said in a statement.

A score that falls within 75-100 is Excellent, 65-75 is Very Good, 55-65 is Good, 40-55 is Fair and 0-40 is poor.

While no country fell into the Excellent (75-100) category for average video quality, South Korea (with top download speed of 45.58 Mbps) was the fastest of the 69 countries analysed in the report.

The best video experience was recorded in the Czech Republic.

“In general, European countries tended to rank higher than their counterparts in the Americas, while Asian and Middle Eastern countries are scattered throughout the rankings,” the report said.

“Eleven of the 69 countries we analyzed earned a Very Good rating on OpenSignal’s video experience scale, meaning mobile video loaded quickly and rarely stalled even at higher resolutions,” the report added.

A first-of-its-kind measurement in the mobile industry, OpenSignal’s video experience metric was derived from an International Telecommunication Union (ITU)-based approach for measuring video quality.

For the analysis, OpenSignal examined 69 countries spread throughout the globe to see how they stacked up in video experience.

“We discovered that the relationship is a complicated one. Where mobile broadband connections are slow, speed has a big impact on video experience.

“But at faster levels, speed has little relation to the quality of video streaming. The countries with the fastest speed don’t necessarily offer the best video experience,” said the report.

The vast majority of the 69 countries fell into a relatively narrow range of scores between 40 and 65, earning them either Fair or Good ratings.

“It means for much of the world, the typical mobile video experience leaves something to be desired. Video load times are sluggish; stops and stutters mid-stream are common to varying degrees; and connections often have trouble coping with higher-resolution formats,” the report noted.

Judged by the user experience rather than rote measurements, the mobile industry still has work to do when it comes to video.

“Countries with extremely powerful LTE networks in terms of download and upload speeds, availability and coverage, aren’t always providing the best video experience,” said the report.

After facing a humiliating 9-wicket defeat against arch-rivals India, Pakistan would want to make a mark when they face Bangladesh in their third and final Super Four encounter of Asia Cup 2018 at Sheikh Zayed stadium in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday. On the other hand, Bangladesh will be coming into this match with a narrow 3-run victory over Afghanistan. As far as batting is concerned, surprisingly Bangladesh seem to have the upper hand. Whereas Pakistan’s batting line-up has not looked promising, except Shoaib Malik. Both the teams have been disappointing with their bowling attack. Pakistan bowlers could not manage to take any wicket in the game against India. The only wicket they got was of Shikhar Dhawan, but that was a run-out. This battle between two mercurial sides will be an interesting watch. The winner of this match will meet India in the final at Dubai International Stadium on Friday. (Play fantasy league and win cash daily)

The Indian cricket team will aim to maintain their unbeaten run in the ongoing Asia Cup 2018 when they face Afghanistan in a Super Four clash at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on September 25. India have been unstoppable in the tournament as they have breezed past their opponents without much hassle except for their first match against Hong Kong. With a spot in Friday’s final sealed, captain Rohit Sharma may want some of his untested middle-order batsmen to get quality time in the middle.
