Mi A2 Android P update is up for download, but it’s still in beta — proceed with caution

Android Pie updates have been slowly but surely rolling out to select devices, and Mi A2 by Xiaomi seems to the latest in line. Xiaomi Mi A2 Android Pie update beta has been spotted on the XDA Developers forums, hinting at an imminent stable release for the device in the near future. Xiaomi’s Mi A series, unlike any of its other phones, runs on stock Android and doesn’t have any MIUI customisations like the other phones, apart from the camera app on the device.

Mi A2 Android P update beta download

XDA Developers has spotted the Android Pie beta release for the Xiaomi Mi A2 smartphone. Screenshots of the beta release running on a Xiaomi Mi A2 surfaced on the XDA Developers forums, and it comes with features like navigation gestures, adaptive battery, revamped navigation buttons, and more. The screenshots suggest that it is very much like stock Android Pie found on other phones. A beta ROM download link is also available, though we don’t recommend users install it – they should wait for the official beta release.

The report claims that although the beta ROM is official, it may be filled with bugs and issues. This beta release isn’t arriving via OTA yet, and therefore TWRP and Fastboot methods need to be used, the report suggests. This means that the Mi A2 will need to be flashed, for you to be able to run Android Pie beta release. Of course, you’ll need an unlocked bootloader as well. If you don’t wish to do that, then just wait for an OTA rollout, or the eventual stable release to come in.

In terms of pricing, the Mi A2 costs Rs. 16,999 in India, for the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant in India. The 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant costs Rs. 19,999, and the device comes in Black, Gold, Lake Blue, and Rose Gold, and Red colour options. The 6GB RAM variant was made available for Rs. 17,999 during the festive season as part of its introductory offer.

Next-Gen Mercedes-Benz C-Class Spotted Testing For The First Time

The next-gen Mercedes-Benz C-Class is expected to be based on new a modified version of the E-Class’ MRA2 platform, and is likely to come with a host of technological updates.

This is the first time that a prototype of the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class has been spotted

Images of an early prototype of the next-generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class have recently surfaced online. This is the first time the car has been spotted testing, and by the looks of it, the test mule in these images is an early prototype, which could be why it looks fairly similar to the outgoing facelifted C-Class. However, it’s too hard to tell at this point with the amount of camouflage and all the pseudo cladding that the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class is wearing.

Next-gen Mercedes-Benz C-Class test mule is still an early prototype

A closer look at the test mule will tell you that most of the exterior parts we see on the car are in no-way production ready. The grille, headlights and even the taillamps are temporary or makeshift parts, however, the outside rear-view mirrors look new, but it’s too soon to say whether they’ll make it to the production car or not. The alloy wheels on the test mule have been borrowed from the current-gen model, and we can also see that the new C-Class’ C-pillar seems to come with a tighter curve to the rear glass as it meets the beltline.

It’s too soon to comment on the powertrain options of the next-gen Mercedes-Benz C-Class

The next-gen Mercedes-Benz C-Class is said to be based on new a modified version of the E-Class’ MRA2 platform. The new platform should allow the car to cut down on a little weight, at the same time, it is also likely to see some dimensional changes. The new C-Class is also expected to get a slightly roomier cabin while maintaining a similar wheelbase as the outgoing model. We also expect to see a more updates cabin with a full-digital setup for instrumentation and infotainment along with several new gizmos.

It’s too soon to comment on the powertrain or other technical specifications, however, it’s quite possible that the new C-Class could come with a hybrid powertrain as well. We do not expect to see the production version of the car any time before 2020.

New Triumph Tiger 800 Spotted Testing

Spy shots show a revised Triumph Tiger 800 undergoing test runs, and it could well have an all-new engine, possibly as early as next year.

View Photos

A spy shot of an updated Triumph Tiger 800 has emerged with the bike getting lots of updates

Triumph Motorcycles could be in the process of developing an all-new version of the Tiger 800, and this time it could be more than just a few technical and cosmetic updates. Latest spy shots reveal that Triumph is already testing the updated Tiger 800, and this time there could be significant changes, possibly even a slightly larger and more powerful engine. From the looks of the spy shot, the bike being tested doesn’t quite look like an early prototype, so Triumph could well be looking at introducing an all-new middleweight Tiger as early as next year.

Triumph

Watch our first ride review of the 2018 Triumph Tiger 800

The test mule of the new Tiger 800 has a different engine, with a shallower sump, new cases and slightly thicker header pipes. Now, these could well be Triumph’s updates to the model for it to meet the upcoming Euro 5 emission regulations, but there could be even more changes, possibly even a brand new engine. Latest reports indicate that Triumph may be looking to plonk a slightly larger 900 cc triple engine on the Tiger, which is expected to make around 100-110 bhp, making it ready to tackle competition.

The bike seen in the spy shot is clearly the off-road oriented XC variant, and it sports the usual 21-inch spoked front wheel, but suspension travel seems to be longer than the current Tiger 800 XC range, and also boosted is the ground clearance, which seems to be more than the current generation bike. The current Tiger 800 also has the rear subframe and pillion pegs bolted on to the frame, so a crash off-road may completely damage the frame. On the test mule though, the rear subframe seems to be bolted on to the main frame, and the pillion footpegs are also removable.

So far, it’s not clear when the new model will be available commercially and what its final specs will be. And closer to production, the new Tiger could well see several cosmetic updates as well. Earlier this year, Triumph updated the existing Tiger range, with lots of improvements to the Tiger 800 as well, so an all-new model replacement will take some time, but maybe not that long as well. We expect Triumph to continue testing the bike in the coming months, with an official unveil sometime in 2019, with the bike going on sale in 2020. Expect more buzz and even more spy shots of the new Tiger in the coming months!

Nokia 9 PureView smartphone has been spotted running Android 9 Pie

HMD Global has launched a bunch of Nokia-branded smartphones in the last couple of years. While there have been several premium-looking handsets such as the Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia fans are still waiting for a truly top-end flagship. Meanwhile, reports of an upcoming Nokia 9 PureView smartphone have been churning out of the rumour mills for quite some time now. Now, a new leak has hinted at some of the features that we can expect in the handset. According to the latest report, the alleged Nokia 9 PureView has been codenamed ‘Olympic’ and has been spotted running Android 9 Pie.

The long-anticipated Nokia 9 with its rumoured Penta-lens camera setup was expected to be HMD Global’s rumoured flagship for 2018 despite being delayed on multiple occasions. However, a previous report had claimed that the smartphone may not be unveiled this year at all and instead launch at MWC 2019 early next year. Several reports in the past have indicated that the smartphone could be called Nokia 9 PureView, especially after HMD Global acquired the trademark from Microsoft in August. As per a report by LoveNokia, the upcoming Nokia 9 PureView bears the codename ‘Olympic; and runs the latest Android Pie with the most-recent November security patch.

The Nokia 9 PureView is expected to come with a Penta-camera setup and house an in-display fingerprint sensor. The report claims that the ex-employees who were a part of the imaging division of Nokia, are now a part of HMD Global’s team. The latest piece of information was spotted from the servers of FIH Mobile, a subsidiary of Taiwan-based Foxconn, which manufactures electronic devices for a number of companies.

As per the report, the metadata obtained from the FIH server, Nokia 9 PureView runs Android 9 Pie with build number 00CN_4_030 and November security patch. LoveNokia notes that the smartphone they spotted is a test device of the Chinese model, rather than the final retail variant. The report also provides a screenshot that was grabbed from the FIH server, showcasing the five Olympic rings. This is in line with previous reports that suggested that the Nokia 9 PureView comes with five cameras at the back.

Meanwhile, tipster ‘Nokia anew’ has published a tweet bringing to light an internal decision within HMD Global. According to the tweet, the company has hinted that new Nokia 9 PureView could start a new series of PureView smartphones.

Upcoming Jawa 300 Motorcycle Spotted Testing Ahead Of Unveil Next Month

Ahead of its official unveil on November 15, the first test mule of Jawa’s upcoming 300 cc motorcycle has been spied.

View Photos

Jawa’s all-new motorcycle will be a 300 cc Royal Enfield Classic 350 rival

Czech motorcycle brand Jawa is all set to make its comeback to the Indian market and the bike maker has earmarked November 15, 2018, as its big day. Ahead of the official unveil next month, the first test mule of Jawa’s upcoming 300 motorcycle has been spied on road and it does keep the retro body very much intact, under all that camouflage. While little is known about the motorcycle including its name, Jawa has revealed details on the engine that will power the new motorcycle. It is likely that there will be more than one bike powered by the 300 cc engine from the brand.

The new Jawa 300 cc motorcycle spied certainly looks like it is preparing to take on the Royal Enfield Classic 350. The retro-styling looks very much in-line with the classic Jawas. Small details like the chain case, rear suspension cover and the single-round headlight are all retro and bring the vintage feel to the otherwise modern bike. The fuel tank also appears to be large, which should make for an respectable touring range. The twin-cylinder engine is the same as the one unveiled in images earlier this year and fits rather well.

While details haven’t been revealed yet, the Jawa 300 motorcycle is likely to feature telescopic forks up front and a gas charged twin shocks at the rear. The bike also sports a front disc brake while the rear gets a drum brake setup. The bike rides on what look like 18-inch spoke wheels with MRF tyres. It’s not confirmed if ABS will be available at the time of launch, which we hope is the case.

With respect to the powertrain, the upcoming Jawa bike will be using the 293 cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine tuned to produce 27 bhp and 28 Nm of peak torque. The motor will be paired with a 6-speed gearbox.

The Jawa brand is owned Classic Legends Private Limited, which in turn is owned by the Mahindra Group. The company is eyeing the premium motorcycle market with the Jawa brand, which will be sold alongside the Mahindra Mojo. Prices are expected to be in the vicinity of ₹ 1.5-1.75 lakh (ex-showroom). More details on the brand’s positioning, sales and marketing will be available in a fortnight from now. We will be bringing you complete details soon, so stay tuned!

Next-Gen Toyota Camry Spotted Testing In India

The car spotted in India is the eight-generation Toyota Camry and globally the car is already on sale.

View Photos

The new eight-gen Camry has already made its global debut, and is now gearing up its India launch

Images of the next-generation Toyota Camry have recently surfaced online in its near-production guise. The new Camry is already on sale in the global markets, and sighting of the car in India indicates that Toyota might be considering launching the car in India, possibly in 2019. Interestingly this is not the first time that a test mule of the eight-gen Toyota Camry has been spotted in India, but like the previous one, the latest mule also comes with some heavy camouflage.

New Toyota Camry is already on sale in the global markets

Unlike the previously seen prototype model of the new Toyota Camry, this time around we also get a closer look at the front section of the car. Despite the camouflage, we can see the outlines of the car’s signature design lines and the large front grille. The exposed bits also reveal the sharp-looking headlamps which come with LED project lights and LED daytime running lamps as well. The car runs on a set of multi-spoke alloy wheels, sleeker ORVMs, and wraparound LED taillamps at the rear.

New Toyota Camry will also come in hybrid format

Based on the exhaust pipe, this particular car appears to be the hybrid model, which is understandable considering the outgoing Camry in India is also offered only in a hybrid format. Other exterior elements visible in these images include the new sleek taillamps, and chrome door handles. The all-new 2018 Toyota Camry will be the latest model from the automaker to be based on the TNGA modular platform.

Under the hood, the new-gen Toyota Camry will get a 2.5-litre petrol engine on the standard version, while the Hybrid model will continue to use the 2.5-litre petrol with Atkinson cycle engine, paired to an electric motor. Both versions will come paired to a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). The US model will also get the 3.5-litre V6 petrol motor, which won’t be making its way to India.

OnePlus 6T Allegedly Spotted on Geekbench Website With Android 9.0 Pie

OnePlus 6T Allegedly Spotted on Geekbench Website With Android 9.0 Pie

The alleged listing of OnePlus 6T on Geekbench shows October 23 as upload date

OnePlus 6T’s launch is just around the corner. But days ahead of its official launch, the upcoming OnePlus smartphone has now allegedly been spotted on the Geekbench website. The online listing shows OnePlus A6013 that is considered to be the OnePlus 6T. It reveals the presence of Android 9.0 Pie instead of Android Oreo that was featured on the website of a German retailer recently. Further, the Geekbench listing reiterates the availability of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC along with 8GB of RAM. The OnePlus 6T will debut in India on October 30, though its global unveiling is scheduled for October 29. The company recently announced that it will host pop-up events in the country on November 2 to let customers experience the phone in person before taking their buying decision.

As first spotted by the Netherlands’ TelefoonAbonnement.nl, the Geekbench listing details a suspicious handset called OnePlus A6013 that is believed to be a pre-production unit of the OnePlus 6T. The listing shows that the smartphone runs Android 9.0 Pie out-of-the-box and is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, paired with 8GB of RAM. These are matching the previously known specifications of the OnePlus 6T.

In addition to detailing the hardware, the Geekbench listing shows that the handset has received a single-core score of 2,387 and a multi-core score of 8,925. These are in line with other powerful Android devices, including the OnePlus 6. However, since the benchmarks are likely to be received on the pre-production unit, the actual performance of the OnePlus 6T may vary – could be even better than the current scores.

The Geekbench listing also shows October 23 as the upload date. This suggests that the OnePlus smartphone in question could be one of the final units of the OnePlus 6T, but perhaps running non-final software builds.

OnePlus 6T specifications (rumoured)

The OnePlus 6T is so far rumoured to have a 6.41-inch full-HD+ (1080×2340 pixels) AMOLED display along with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. In the recent past, OnePlus also confirmed that the smartphone will come with an in-display fingerprint sensor, waterdrop-style display notch, and no 3.5mm headphone jack. Further, it is teased to have some enhanced low-light photography capabilities. The OnePlus 6T is also expected to retain specifications such as a Snapdragon 845 SoC, up to 8GB of RAM, and up to 256GB of onboard storage from its predecessor. The company also confirmed it using a larger, 3,700mAh battery than the 3,300mAh battery featured on the OnePlus 6.

3 New Mac Models Spotted in Eurasian Database, Likely to Debut on October 30

Apple is expected to bring a range of new Mac machines at its October 30 event in New York. But ahead of the formal announcement, as many as three new Mac models running macOS 10.14 Mojave have been spotted in the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) database. All these three new Macs are expected to be a part of the forthcoming event where the Cupertino giant is also speculated to bring a new range of iPad Pro models with Face ID support. Notably, the new models appeared on the EEC database weren’t a part of the list that emerged earlier this year, alongside five unknown iPad models. It is expected that the fresh listing points at the anticipated Mac Mini and iMac upgrades.

The listed filing in the EEC database, as reported by Consomac, shows Mac machines with model identifiers A1993, A2115, and A2116. The filing defines the new models as “Apple personal computers” running macOS 10.14. This is perhaps enough to predict that the latest development is related to the upcoming Mac models. Furthermore, the three listed models are likely to be the new Mac Mini and iMac machines.

Back in July, the EEC database was spotted to have five new Mac computer models with identifiers A1931, A1932, A1988, A1989, and A1990 alongside five new iPad models. All those Mac models were interestingly featured with macOS 10.13 instead of the latest macOS Mojave. It appeared that three of the models listed in the EEC database were related to new MacBook Pros, though the A1932 in the database is likely to be an upcoming MacBook laptop.

TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently predicted that Apple at its October 30 event could unveil at least three new Mac machines, including a “low-price” MacBook as well as an updated Mac mini and iMac. Kuo also forecast that the company will bring two new iPad Pro models with USB Type-C and better display panels than the previous models as well as a “new-design” Apple Pencil to match the updated iPad Pro lineup. The new Apple Pencil is already rumoured to have the ability to pair with the new iPad models by proximity, similar to how AirPods currently pair with a compatible iPhone or Mac device.

The new iPad Pro models, on the other hand, are so far rumoured to have an iPhone X-like TrueDepth Camera system to enable Face ID support. The presence of Face ID will help the company ditch the dated Touch ID button. It is also rumoured that the 2018 iPad Pro family will be able to deliver 4K HDR video to external displays and come with a USB Type-C port instead of Apple’s proprietary Lightning port. The new range could include 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models. Moreover, it is rumoured that Apple could bring a new iPad mini in the coming months.

According to a recent IDC report, Mac shipments declined 11 percent with 4.7 million units being shipped in the third quarter of this year. The fall in shipments brought Apple down to the fifth position in the worldwide PC market, with Lenovo emerging as the market leader, followed by HP, Dell, and Acer. The new models are expected to help the Mac maker to improve its market presence over time.

Windows 10 October 2018 Update Hit by ZIP File Bug Spotted Months Before Release

Windows 10 October 2018 Update’s launch was rocky to say the least, with bugs popping up immediately after release, and one severe enough to delete user data upon installation. This caused Microsoft to suspend the rollout until it could fix the issue, and industry-wide outrage at the lack of quality control on part of the Redmond giant in fixing bugs that had already been spotted in preview stages. Now it appears Windows 10 October 2018 Update (aka Windows 10 version 1809) has been hit with another bug related to ZIP archives. In the meanwhile, a security researcher has publicly outed a zero-day vulnerability in Windows 10, Windows Server 2016, and Windows Server 2019. A patch for this vulnerability has yet to be rolled out by Microsoft.

First spotted by a Reddit user, the Windows 10 October 2018 Update contains a bug related to extracting/ pasting files from a ZIP archive when using the native Windows File Explorer tool. If a user tries to extract or paste a file (let’s say, gadgets360.jpg) from inside a ZIP archive into another folder containing another file with the same name (gadgets360.jpg), they will not be given an overwrite prompt. Instead, the destination folder file’s modified date changes, but the file is not replaced at all.

Windows 10 October 2018 Update Patch Now Giving Blue Screen of Death Issues, Some Users Report

While this doesn’t sound as serious as the data-loss bug, and doesn’t actually overwrite the file, it is severe if one counts the use case where the original ZIP file is deleted by a user convinced they have replaced files. It also misleads users into believing there was no file in the destination folder that matched with files in the ZIP archive. Another Reddit user, who added that the bug also has the Windows File Explorer showing file transfer progress, corroborates the bug.

Notably, as was the case with the data-loss bug, a Windows Insider Preview tester had spotted the presence of ZIP file bug three months ago, and reported it to the Feedback Hub. However, thanks to just a few upvotes on the bug report (as was the case with the data-loss bug, ZDNet notes), it appears to have been overlooked by Microsoft when compiling the Windows 10 October 2018 Update. BleepingComputer adds that this bug was fixed in the Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 18234 (19H1) release that was pushed to testers a full month before the public rollout of the October 2018 Update. Unfortunately, this fix never made it to general users, but with a fix already in builds, one can expect Microsoft to patch it soon enough.

In light of the data-loss bug and how it was originally caught by testers but missed by Microsoft, the Redmond giant had published a short blog post on how it was changing the manner in which bugs could be reported in the Feedback Hub – bug reporters would now be able to add a severity rating. This, Microsoft hopes, would help ensure Windows 10 developers don’t miss out severe reports when fixing bugs in public releases. “We believe this will allow us to better monitor the most impactful issues even when feedback volume is low,” Brandon LeBlanc, Senior Program Manager on the Windows Insider Program Team said.

Next up, we have a new zero-day vulnerability reported by a security researcher who for now is just known by their Twitter handle – SandboxEscaper. It was publicly outed on Twitter on Tuesday, and this is not the first time that SandboxEscaper has found a zero-day Windows vulnerability and publicly outed it – the last time was less than two months ago. Microsoft acknowledged August’s bug report in a statement to ZDNet, and a fix was rolled out in the September 2018 Patch Tuesday update, but not before PowerPool group used it in a malware distribution campaign.

Getting back to Tuesday’s zero-day vulnerability disclosure by SandboxEscaper, a GitHub proof-of-concept has also been published alongside. The bug affects the Microsoft Data Sharing service, known as dssvc.dll in Windows 10, Windows Server 2016, and Windows Server 2019. The vulnerability allows attackers to elevate privileges on a machine they already have access to. While the proof-of-concept exploit only details how an attacker can delete files they don’t have permission to, the exploit could be modified to let attackers perform more actions, ZDNet cites several security experts to say. While Microsoft has yet to comment on this latest bug report, such a public disclosure may once again give bad actors a chance to weaponise it into malware campaigns before Microsoft can patch it. A security company called 0patch has in the meanwhile released a micropatch for the vulnerability, which could be used by concerned users before an official fix is released.
