Manish Pandey Scores Century As India A Clinch One-Day Series vs New Zealand A

Skipper Manish Pandey scored a sublime century to guide India A to a comfortable five-wicket win against New Zealand A in the second one-day game at the Bay Oval on Sunday. With the victory, India A also clinched the series, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match rubber. Chasing a target of 300, Manish played an unbeaten 111-run knock off 109 balls, taking India A across the line with six balls to spare. Shreyas Iyer (59) and Vijay Shankar (59) provided excellent support to Manish in the tricky run-chase.

India A opted to field after winning the toss, and medium pacer Khaleel Ahmed drew first blood in the first over, dismissing Hamish Rutherford for eight. After Rutherford’s departure, George Worker and Will Young put up a mammoth 190-run partnership for the second wicket. Worker scored 99 and Young 102, as both the batsmen had a field day out in the middle.

With 199 for one in 39.5 overs at one stage, New Zealand A batsmen faltered towards the end of the innings. India A bowlers chipped in with crucial wickets in the death overs, restricting the home team at 299 for nine in 50 overs.

Khaleel Ahmed and Navdeep Saini bagged two wickets each, while Siddarth Kaul, Axar Patel and Krishnappa Gowtham had one wicket each to their name.

While chasing the target, India got off to a decent start with Shubman Gill (25) and Mayank Agarwal (25) adding 40 runs for the first wicket. But pace duo of Seth Rance and Hamish Bennett dismissed both the openers in quick succession, putting India in a spot of bother at 58 for two.

Skipper Manish Pandey and Shreyas Iyer then joined hands for a crucial 90-run partnership for the third wicket, steadying the run-chase for India.

Manish, then went on to be part of a 123-run stand with all-rounder Vijay Shankar. The partnership took India close to the target.

Towards the end, Manish added another 29 runs with Axar Patel as he took India to a convincing  five-wicket win.

The third and final match of the one-day series will be played on December 11.

Premier League: Lucas Torreira Scores Stunning Late Winner For Arsenal vs Huddersfield

Mustafi and Guendouzi were trying to fool the referee into awarding a desperate home side a penalty, while Xhaka was simply trying to earn his side a free-kick unjustly in the middle of the pitch.

That desperation to make the breakthrough summed up a frustrating afternoon for Unai Emery’s men until Torreira’s late intervention.

Emery again demonstrated a ruthless streak as after another fitful first-half display from his side, he made a double substitution at half-time.

His introduction of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alex Iwobi triggered an Arsenal performance that was more centred on a determination to attack rather than to become embroiled in trading tackles, as they had in the first half.

The desire of the Huddersfield players not to give their Arsenal counterparts a moment to dwell on the ball in midfield earned them the wrath of the Emirates crowd and no doubt influenced referee Tierney to caution Alex Pritchard, Danny Williams and Tommy Smith all within eight minutes of each other.

Bad misses

Xhaka, one of five Arsenal players to see yellow, was at least responsible for the game’s opening chance after 28 minutes. His intelligent ball to the near post ought to have been converted by Aubameyang. Yet, instead of meeting the ball with his right foot, the striker tried to use his left but could only stab the ball wide.

If that was a bad miss, Aubameyang was outdone by Alexandre Lacazette 60 seconds later. The Frenchman was found all alone inside the area by Guendouzi. He dallied too long and then slipped, scooping the ball embarrassingly over the bar from 12 yards.

Two minutes before half-time, Pritchard ought to have given Huddersfield the lead, swivelling to strike a Smith cross high and wide.

Finally the match was livening up and at the other end Torreira saw his curling effort from outside the area brilliantly palmed away for a corner by Huddersfield keeper Jonas Lossl.

While the second half wasn’t replete with chances, Mkhitaryan sent a low effort just wide within two minutes of his introduction, while Iwobi drove Arsenal forward constantly as they searched for the decisive goal.

Emery will have defensive problems to deal with over the festive period as Mustafi limped off just after the hour with an apparent hamstring injury, adding to the long-term absence of Rob Holding due to a cruciate knee ligament injury suffered in midweek.

However, the Spanish coach at least had another three points to console him when Torreira furthered his case as a cult hero among the Arsenal support with a spectacular finish to move the Gunners above Tottenham into third in the Premier League.

2018 Fiat Panda Hatchback Scores 0 Stars In Euro NCAP Crash Test

The 2018 Fiat Panda hatchback, one of the most popular offerings from the Italian automaker has scored a very low 0 star rating in the latest Euro NCAP crash tests.

While the 0 Star Car is still a sad reality in India as we have seen recently with the Renault Lodgy, Europe more often than not has cars that scores a higher 4 or 5 star safety rating across the board. Which is why a 0 Star rated car is most certainly something to report about, even though the car in question is not really relevant to India in general. The 2018 Fiat Panda, one of the most popular offerings from the Italian automaker and also it’s cheapest hatchback has scored a dismal 0 star rating in the recent set of tests conducted by the Euro NCAP. The score on the Fiat Panda is one of the lowest ever seen.

(Euro NCAP Fiat Panda Crash Test)

Unlike Global NCAP that tests cars that are made in India too, the Euro NCAP tests have far more parameters. The car goes through the usual frontal offset crash test as for the Indian cars but also has a side impact, a full frontal test and several pedestrian tests too. While the Panda’s compartment remained stable for the frontal offset test, the readings on the test dummy showcased weak chest compression. The test results also showcased that the knee and the femur protection was good but while subjected to a full frontal test, dummy readings indicated weak protection of the head and neck.

(Fiat Panda)

Commenting on the results, Michiel van Ratingen, General Secretary, Euro NCAP said, “It is truly disappointing to see a brand-new car being put on sale in 2018 with no autonomous braking system and no lane assistance. It is high time we saw a product from the FIAT-Chrysler group offering safety to rival its competitors.”

(Euro NCAP Fiat Panda Side Impact Crash Test)

The Fiat Panda also scores really poorly in terms of children safety as tests for various ages showcased poor readings to the head and other parts of the body. Euro NCAP also tests car seats in specific for whiplash protection. Tests on the front seats and head restraints showcased marginal protection against whiplash injuries in the event of a rear end collision and the rear seats in particular indicated poor whiplash protection. The Panda also scored lower as it does not get any automated emergency braking systems or AED.

In terms of safety, the Jaguar I-Pace comes with several features for incumbents and pedestrian safety as well. Features like – deployable bonnet and autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection. Jaguar also designed a unique Audible Vehicle Alert System (AVAS) for its first electric vehicle that warns road users when the vehicle is approaching. Other safety and driver assist tech include – adaptive cruise control with steering assist, blind spot assist, and 360-degree parking aid.

Incidentally, now Jaguars entire Pace range, F-Pace, E-Pace, and I-Pace, have been rated among the safest vehicles by Euro NCAP, with all three receiving five-star rating. In fact, the I-Pace is the tenth consecutive model from the British automaker to receive five stars in crash tests.

MotoGP: Dovizioso Wins Crash Ridden Valencia GP; KTM Scores First-Ever Podium

Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso took a smashing win in the final race of the MotoGP season in the Valencia GP, while Pol Espargaro took his and KTM’s first ever podium finish.

A smashing and crash ridden finale to the 2018 MotoGP season, Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso won the Valencia Grand Prix turning out to be one of the few riders to actually complete the very wet race. The rain drenched track made for a spectacle at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, as the top riders were pulled out of contention after back-to-back crashes. The race was even stopped at half-point bringing with the red flag out, only to be started again for a 14 lap stint. Dovizioso ended the season just like he started it – with a win. However, the race was a game changed for KTM, which saw rider Pol Espargaro take his and the team’s first ever podium in the sport. Suzuki’s Alex Rins took his fifth podium of the season, finishing behind Dovizioso.

(KTM’s Pol Espargaro had a smashing finish to the 2018 season)

The Valencia GP started out wet but was drying when the race begun. However, it wasn’t long before the clouds were back over the circuit and the track was soaked again. Yamaha’s Maverick Vinales started on pole in a surprise qualifying session, but couldn’t hold on to the lead for long as Rins and Dovi were quick to pass the rider on Turn 2 of the opening lap. Rins took the lead and was a good 2 seconds clear of Dovi. The next few laps saw Rins extend his gap further to 4 seconds.

(Valentino Rossi crashed while in third place, handing over the position to Pol)

But, the action was yet to arrive on the track as the weather conditions worsened. The crashes began piling up at the back that started with Aleix Espargaro on the Aprilia, which was followed by Jack Miller of Pramac Ducati. This was followed Michele Pirro (Angel Nieto Ducati) and Danilo Petrucci of Pramac Ducati crashing as well. Pol Espargaro too crashed out after Lap 5 while fighting world champion Marc Marquez for third, but escaped unhurt returning into contention. Marquez though lasted a few corners have that incident and had a major highside on Turn 9 further hurting his injured shoulder. The incident ended the Honda rider’s run in the finale, and was followed up by Suzuki’s Andrea Iannone also crashing in a similar manner.

(Marc Marquez retired after a massive crash, further hurting his injured shoulder)

By Lap 10, Rins, Dovi, Valentino Rossi and Vinales were the top four riders, all within a margin of five seconds. However, Vinales run was shortlived as a fast crash on Turn 14 pushed him out of the race followed by Marc VDS Honda’s Franco Morbidelli also crashing out while in fifth place. KTM’s Bradley Smith crashed on Lap 12 and was the ninth rider to do so.

Meanwhile, Rins was finding it difficult to keep up with the conditions and was passed by Dovizioso and Rossi, pushing down to third. By Lap 15, Dovi raised his hand pleading to stop the race as the conditions worsened even further, prompting the red flags to come out.

(Maverick Vinales crashed on Lap 10 while in fourth place)

The race was resumed later for a 14 lap stint with the order rolled back to that of Lap 13. Rins was back in the lead but was passed again by Dovizioso on the main straight, followed by Rossi in third. The Ducati rider held on to the lead, while Rins soon slipped behind Rossi to third.

Angle Nieto Ducati’s Alvaro Bautista was the first rider to crash since the restart, in what was his final MotoGP race. With just five laps to go, the wet track finally caught up with Rossi as he crashed promoting Pol Espargaro to third, giving the rider his first-ever podium finish.

Dovi managed to finish the race without any incident, with a lead of 2.750s over Rins, while Espargaro and Pirro took third and fourth respectively, re-mounting after crashes in the pre-red-flag race.

(Dani Pedrosa completed his career’s final MotoGP race in fifth place)

Bringing an end to a legendary career, Honda’s Dani Pedrosa completed his final MotoGP race in fifth place, aheasd of Honda rider Takaaki Nakagami. Tech3 Yamaha’s Johann Zarco and KTM’s Smith finished at P7 and P8. Tech3’s rookie rider Hafizh Syahrin finished tenth behind Stefan Bradl, who was standing in for LCR Honda’s Cal Crutchlow.

Aprilia’s Scott Redding finished 11th, ahead of Ducati’s Jorge Lorenzo and a damaged Yamaha ridden by Rossi. Bautista, who also crashed, re-mounted to finish 16th, behind Angel Nieto’s Karel Abraham, who moves back to WSBK next year and Jordi Torres.

Raheem Sterling Scores Double As Manchester City Hit Southampton For Six

“He is more mature now than he was when we first met at the club…He is 23 and he can be a better player.”

Southampton had the minor consolation of becoming the first team in 630 minutes to score against City but the leaders’ form is ominous for the rest of the division.

City are scoring at a marginally faster rate than they did while racking up a record 106 goals last season, and they made a devastating start at the Etihad that finished the game as a contest within 18 minutes of kick-off.

Five minutes had gone when Aguero orchestrated an attack on the edge of the Southampton area, David Siva then moving the ball on to the overlapping Sane, whose cross was turned into his own goal by Saints’ Wesley Hoedt.

It took a further six minutes for City to double the lead, Bernardo Silva setting free Sterling on the right and the England forward selflessly squaring for Aguero to hammer in from close range.

Landmark goal

It was the Argentine’s 150th league goal for City, a landmark that moved him level with Michael Owen in eighth place on the Premier League’s all-time goalscoring list.

It appeared City were capable of scoring almost at will and a slick move saw them make it three in the 18th minute.

Again, Sterling was heavily involved, accepting Bernardo Silva’s pass and putting in a cross that was a little too high for Sane but arrived for David Silva, who volleyed in at the far post.

Southampton manager Mark Hughes, whose future has been the subject of increasing speculation following a run that has now seen him win just four of his 19 league games in charge, reacted furiously to yet more appalling defending from his side.

“We were poor in that opening period, you have to be resolute to keep back an outstanding City team,” said Hughes. “We were a bit lightweight and didn’t deal with one-on-one situations.”

Southampton did, however, pull a goal back after half an hour, becoming the first English team to score against City since Newcastle at the Etihad at the start of September.

It was a rare mistake from goalkeeper Ederson that led to the Saints goal, the Brazilian diving unnecessarily at the feet of Danny Ings and tripping the forward, who convincingly shot home the penalty.

However there was never a hint that Southampton might be able to launch anything resembling a fightback and City ended the half as they had begun it — by scoring.

David Silva’s through ball appeared to be going out of play but Aguero showed impressive persistence to chase and pull it back for Sterling who, first miskicked but then shot past Saints goalkeeper Alex McCarthy from six yards.

Southampton improved at the start of the second half, with James Ward-Prowse and Ings — via wicked deflection off Fernandinho — forcing Ederson to make fine stops.

But City continued to threaten, and Sane almost made it five with a vicious left-foot shot from the edge of the area that struck the bar just after the hour.

Sterling did in the 67th minute when he latched onto Aguero’s perfectly-weighted pass to score his second goal of the afternoon.

Sane completed an impressive individual and team display in stoppage time when he steered in a left-foot shot from 18 yards following another assist from Sterling.

There was an even more poignant scene at Old Trafford as the 12 Thai boys rescued from an underground cave in July were in attendance and given a rousing reception by supporters. United’s fifth defeat of the season to Juventus in the Champions League on Tuesday had put Mourinho’s position in peril once more. But he got the slice of luck he needed when Paul Pogba’s penalty was saved by England number one Jordan Pickford, but rolled kindly back into the Frenchman’s path to slot home the opener.

The United fans still weren’t happy with Pogba, though, as he received jeers for his laboured run-up to the spot-kick. Pogba made some amends as it was from his pass Anthony Martial curled home a fine second four minutes into the second half. However, another sloppy pass from Pogba helped get Everton back in the game as Gylfi Sigurdsson scored from the penalty spot after Chris Smalling chopped down Richarlison.

India-Made Hyundai i20 Scores 3-Star Rating Global NCAP Crash Test

The Hyundai i20 tested by Global NCAP was for the South African market and was made in India and was tested for its crashworthiness as part of Global NCAPs Safer Cars for Africa campaign.

The India-made Hyundai i20 hatchback, which is exported to the South African markets has recently scored 3-star rating in a recent crash test conducted by the Global New Car Assessment Programme (Global NCAP). The Hyundai i20, along with a few other models, was tested for its crashworthiness as part of Global NCAP’s Safer Cars for Africa campaign. The safety watchdog chose only the entry-level variant of the Hyundai i20, which was tested for frontal impact at a speed of 64 kmph.

As already mentioned, the Hyundai i20 scored 3 stars for adult occupant safety, whereas for child occupant safety, the car was given just 2 stars. In fact, Global NCAP’s report also said that the vehicle structure was rated as unstable as well as the footwell area. The crash test report revealed that the protection provided to both the driver and front passenger’s head and the latter’s left shin were good. The protection provided to the driver’s chest, thighs and feet were just marginal, and adequate for both the shins. On the other hand, the protection provided to the front passenger’s chest and right leg was adequate and just marginal for the passenger’s left thigh.

The India-made Hyundai i20 that was tested by the Global NCAP came with the driver and front passenger airbags as standard, along with seatbelt pre-tensioners for both front passengers and seatbelt reminder for the driver. As for the i20 receiving a two-star rating for child occupant protection, the report stated that it was because of the limited protection offered to the 3-year-old dummy and lack of ISOFIX anchorages.

The report also pointed out that the structural integrity of the i20 is different to that of the European model, and the car sold in South Africa also misses out on safety equipment like Electronic Stability Control (ESC), side body airbags and side curtain airbags which are standard in the European-spec i20.

Virat Kohli Scores His 37th ODI Century, Shatters Records

In the process, the flamboyant 29-year-old also became the fastest cricketer to score 10,000 ODI runs, taking just 205 innings. En route this record, he surpassed India legend Sachin Tendulkar’s record of reaching the 10,000 ODI-run mark in 259 innings.

Virat Kohli became the fifth Indian and 13th overall player to score 10,000 ODI runs. Virat Kohli is also the second youngest (29y 353d) to the milestone after Tendulkar (27y 341d).

Sachin Tendulkar had achieved this feat back in March 31 in 2001.

Kohli in the 47th over, also went on to score 1000* ODI runs (11 matches) in the year 2018 with an average of 143.43. Now, he also holds the record of scoring 1,000 ODI runs in a calendar year in fewest innings (11) bettering his own record of 2012 (15 innings). The right-handed batsman surpassed Hashim Amla’s 15 innings in 2010.

On Wednesday, Kohli completed 4,000 runs in ODIs at home. He became the fastest to do so as he took just 78 innings as compared to Tendulkar’s 92.  He also took over Tendulkar’s aggregate of 1,573 to become India’s highest run-getter in ODIs against the Windies.

Earlier in the second ODI, Kohli won the toss and elected to bat against the Windies. India lost Rohit Sharma (4) and Shikhar Dhawan (29) early. However, the Indian ship was steadied by Kohli and Ambati Rayudu.

The Indian duo stitched together a 139-run partnership to motor India forward towards a competitive total.

Ambati Rayudu, who scored his 9th ODI fifty, was dismissed for 73 off 80 balls by spinner Ashley Nurse.
