Visit To Temple, Roadshow On Day 1 Of Rahul Gandhi’s Madhya Pradesh Tour

A devotee of Lord Shiva, Rahul Gandhi has visited dozens of temples in the last one year.

Rahul Gandhi, who is visiting poll-bound Madhya Pradesh, offered prayers at Pitambara Shakti Peeth in Datia this morning. Photographs of the Congress president dressed in a white kurta with a saffron dhoti (wrap), folded hands and sitting cross-legged on the floor have flooded social media.

Mr Gandhi, who was accompanied by senior Congress leaders Jyotiraditya Scindia and Kamal Nath, stayed at the temple, one of the 51 Shakti Peeths, for about half an hour before heading for a rally in Datia.

Several political leaders have visited the shrine in the past, state Congress spokesman Pankaj Chaturvedi said.

“Indira Gandhi visited the shrine in 1979, before polls in 1980 and later after becoming the prime minister. Later, Rajiv Gandhi also offered prayers here after becoming PM in 1984-85,” he said.

Mr Chaturvedi said when former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had fallen sick, senior Congress leader Kamlapati Tripathi had organised a special puja for his recovery at the shaktipeeth.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia is the chairperson of the Pitambara Trust that runs the shrine.

Roadshows in four different cities, several meetings and a visit to Scindia memorial in Gwalior are part of Mr Gandhi’s two-day visit to the state.

Last month, Mr Gandhi started his party’s campaign for November 28 elections with roadshow amid chanting of mantras and kanya pujan in Bhopal. During his visit to Chitrakoot, Mr Gandhi sought blessings at Kamtanath temple. He also performed aarti on the banks of Narmada in Jabalpur earlier this month.

The Congress chief will visit the Indore-Ujjain region on October 25-26 where he will offer prayers at the Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingams of Lord Shiva.

A devotee of Lord Shiva, Rahul Gandhi has visited dozens of temples in the last one year. He went on a 12-day pilgrimage to Kailash Mansarovar in August-end.

His temple visits in poll-bound states have often irked the ruling BJP which calls them as an attempt to draw Hindu voters. The Congress has always dismissed such allegations saying the BJP does not have the “patent on devotion”.

Rahul Gandhi Attacks Centre On Demonetisation In Madhya Pradesh Roadshow

Rahul Gandhi questioned why the loans of farmers, who borrowed Rs 5000, could not be waived

Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Monday termed the demonetisation as the “biggest scam” of the Modi government to convert black money into white. He was speaking at a 15-km roadshow in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh,

Mr Gandhi held the four-hour-long roadshow after performing ‘puja’ and taking blessings from 11 priests.

Travelling in a bus, the 48-year-old leader criss-crossed several areas of Bhopal, passing through the roads which were decorated and had party banners like the ones describing

Mr Gandhi as a ‘Shiv bhakt‘ (a devotee of Lord Shiva). The roadshow was the virtual launch of the Congress campaign for the assembly polls slated later this year, in which his party has the tough task of dislodging the BJP which has been ruling the state for the last 15 years.

Thousands of Congress workers and local residents flanked the roads and jostled to catch a glimpse of Gandhi, who was accompanied by senior party leaders, including state Congress president Kamal Nath and state party’s campaign panel chairman Jyotiraditya Scindia.

En route, he had a brief halt to have tea and ‘samosa’ at a roadside stall near Sadar Manzil.

He also posed for a selfie with the tea stall owner and his staff, Congress MLA from Indore Jitu Patwari told PTI.

After the roadshow, Mr Gandhi addressed a public meeting, during which he attacked the Modi government.

“Demonetisation was the biggest scam that the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has undertaken in four years which the Congress had not done in the last 70 years,” the Congress leader said at the BHEL Dusshera Maidan.

PM Modi had on November 8, 2016 announced demonetisation, under which the Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes existing then were scrapped with immediate effect.

“The scam was aimed at taking out money from the small traders to put into the pockets of 15 richest persons of the country,” Mr Gandhi alleged.

He claimed that the BJP-led government has waived loans worth Rs 1.5 lakh crore which was the NPA of 15 big industries.

He questioned why the loans of farmers, who “have borrowed just Rs 5000”, could not be waived.

“Those who took loans in lakhs and crores were called as ‘Non-Performing Assets (NPA)’, but when a farmer fails to pay Rs 5000 loan, you term him as ‘defaulter’,” Mr Gandhi said.

“When Congress comes to power in the country, it will waive the entire loan of farmers. The Congress had already done so by waiving Rs 70,000 crore loan earlier of the peasants,” he said.

For generating jobs for the youth, the Congress government will ensure that mobile phones and other items will be manufactured here under ‘Made-in-Madhya Pradesh’ and ‘Made-in-Bhopal, he added.

Mr Gandhi’s roadshow, after passing through the main streets of the city, concluded at the Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd’s Dussehra Maidan at around 5 pm.

A large number of security personnel were deployed along the route of Mr Gandhi’s roadshow. Besides the regular police force, an additional 1,500 policemen manned the streets of Bhopal, police officials said.

18-km Roadshow, Shiv Bhakt Posters

Over one lakh Congress workers are expected to be in Bhopal for Rahul Gandhi’s visit.

Fresh from his 12-day Kailash-Mansarovar trip, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi started his party’s campaign in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh with a mega roadshow in Bhopal today. Life-size cut-outs and posters with photographs of Mr Gandhi pouring holy water on Shivalinga have come up along the 18-km route that Mr Gandhi is covering in a bus.

During his day-long visit to the state capital, the 48-year-old Shiv bhakt or devotee of Lord Shiva, as has been projected by his party workers, sought blessings from Hindu priests and young girls before beginning his roadshow from Lalghati Square, close to the Raja Bhoj Airport in Bhopal. Thousands of party workers and supporters accompanied him holding the party’s flags as he started the Sankalp Yatra. The cavalcade will pass through the old city areas, including Royal Market and Peer Gate, before concluding the show at BHEL Dussehra Maidan in the evening.

Mr Gandhi will address a meeting of Congress workers, which is open to public, before leaving in the evening, state party spokesperson Pankaj Chaturvedi told news agency Press Trust of India. A T-shaped ramp has been constructed near the stage from where Mr Gandhi will take questions from party workers.

Over two lakh Congress workers are expected to participate in the event, Congress leader Bhupendra Gupta said.

Security has been tightened in the city and an additional 1,500 policemen have been deployed, Jaideep Prasad, Bhopal’s Inspector General (IG) of Police, said.

“Rahul Gandhi’s track record hasn’t been good for his party. Wherever he has gone to campaign, the Congress has lost. He isn’t bothered about the problems of the people of the country. He isn’t aware of the situation here. He is doing this for the sake of votes,” Madhya Pradesh Revenue Minister Umashankar Gupta said ahead of the Congress leader’s visit.

Posters with photographs of Rahul Gandhi pouring holy water on Shivalinga have come up in Bhopal.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah are also expected to be in Bhopal on September 25. Preparations are underway to make the event a huge success state, BJP spokesperson Rajnish Agrawal said.

The Congress chief left for Kailash-Mansarovar on August 31, keeping a promise he had made in April, when his plane plunged hundreds of feet while flying him to a public meeting for the Karnataka polls.

Once there, he shared pictures of Mansarovar lake and captioned that “there is no hatred here”. As images and videos of the picturesque lake and mountains flooded Mr Gandhi’s Twitter handle, the BJP targeted him for his “ignorance about the cultural and religious significance of the Mansarovar Yatra”.

The ruling party had earlier disapproved of his temple visits while campaigning in Gujarat and Karnataka and alleged that the Congress leader was playing a “soft Hindutva” card.

The Zero electric motorcycles will be for test rides across the UK

Electric motorcycle manufacturer Zero Motorcycles will take its range of electric motorcycles on a tour of the UK, giving riders an opportunity to try out a Zero motorcycle. From June to September, Zero motorcycles will attend a total of eight venues, starting in North Wales on June 17 and ending in Surrey on September 16. The idea behind the roadshow is to introduce Zero’s range of electric motorcycles to a wider audience, giving them the chance to try out a Zero from the entire product range – from commuters, dual sport bikes, road bikes and touring bikes.

“Riding a Zero is quite an experience so we’ve decided to go out and take our bikes to the people, to give them an opportunity to try one for themselves,” said Zero Motorcycles’ UK Country Manager Dale Robinson. “Lots of people have preconceptions about electric motorcycles but I’ve never met anyone yet who didn’t come back from a test ride with a smile on their face. There’s no hard sell, just an opportunity for riders to ask any questions they may have, take one out for a ride and make up their own minds on electric motorcycles.”
