Intel to Launch 9th Generation Core i9, Core i7, Core i5 Processors in October: Report

Intel is reportedly all set to refresh its range of Core processors by launching the ninth-generation models as early as October. Unlike the repeatedly delayed Cannon Lake chips that are so far rumoured to be based on all-new 10nm process, the upcoming ninth-generation Intel Core processors are said to be designed using a refined version of the existing 14nm process. The Santa Clara, California-based company is, however, reported to deliver higher clock speeds than the existing Core processors, especially boost speeds across all cores simultaneously. The leaked roadmap of the new Intel Core processors shows that the company is set to kick off its latest generation with the flagship Core i9-9900K on October 1. The company is said to launch its unlocked, overclockable processors first, followed by other models in the ninth-generation Intel Core family.

The Intel Core i9-9900K will have eight cores and 16 threads on October 1, reports Wccftech. As per leaked documents that the site has obtained, the Core i9-9900K will be the first mainstream desktop processor to use the Core i9 brand. Intel notably launched the Core i9-8950HK as the first Core i9 processor for notebooks in April, following the the high-end desktop Core i9 models as part of its Core X-series last year. The upcoming chip is said to include 16MB of L3 cache and Intel’s UHD 620 graphics.

Alongside the Core i9-9900K, Intel will reportedly launch the Core i7-9700K as the first eight-core Core i7 mainstream desktop processor with clock speeds ranging from 3.6GHz to 4.9GHz. However, this model is also said to lack Hyper-Threading, taking the thread count down from 12 to eight compared to the existing Core i7-8700K. The chip is said to have 12MB of L3 cache and a TDP of 95W. Intel is also reportedly preparing the Core i5-9600K as its new budget offering, with six cores and six threads. It will have 9MB of L3 cache, and clock speeds ranging from 3.7GHz to 4.6GHz.

Multiple motherboard vendors have confirmed that upcoming 9000-series of Intel processors will be compatible with existing Z3xx series motherboards. However, Intel is also expected to launch a new top-end Z390 platform controller along with its new 8-core desktop CPUs.

Additionally, the leaked roadmap hints at the arrival of the Basin Falls Refresh platform that will bring newCore X-series processors and X299 refresh motherboards. The new platform could be released sometime in October, shortly after the launch of the new mainstream Intel Core processors.

The leaked document confirmed that unlocked SKUs will arrive first, followed by the rest of the ninth-generation Core processors.

The Triumph Scrambler 1200 will have a comprehensive electronics package

It had to happen! After Ducati introduced the Scrambler 1100 last year, it was a matter of time before Triumph brought out a bigger scrambler too. In fact, Triumph has been testing the Scrambler 1200 for quite some time now. And now, Triumph Motorcycles has released a teaser of the Scrambler 1200, which will be globally unveiled on 24 October, 2018 ahead of the EICMA in Milan. In all possibility, Triumph will have two variants of the Scrambler 1200 which could be named ‘Retro’ and ‘R.’ The new Scrambler 1200 ‘R’ will have Showa upside down forks and Ohlins twin-shocks fitted to a new swingarm which will be longer as well. Also new is a large 21-inch front wheel (the current Street Scrambler has a 19-inch front wheel).

The lower spec ‘Retro’ model might have Nissin brakes and KYB suspension in a bid to keep costs down. Triumph already has the Street Scrambler in its line-up, which shares the 900 cc parallel-twin engine with the Street Twin and the Bonneville T100. The Street Scrambler has ride-by-wire throttle, ABS and traction control, but the bigger 1200 cc Scrambler could possibly get additional riding modes as well, including in all probability an “off-road” mode as well.

Some of the features on the Triumph Scrambler 1200 include an LED headlamp, engine and hand guards, a 21-inch wheel up front and a 19-inch wheel at the rear. The engine of course will be a 1,200 cc parallel-twin motor and we believe it will be in a different tune as compared to the other 1,200 cc engines in Triumph line-up such as the Bonneville Bobber, Bonneville Speedmaster and the Bonneville T120. There are also rumours floating of Ducati coming up with a Desert Sled 1100 which could make its debut at the 2018 EICMA in November 2018 and if that happens, it will be one of the biggest rivals to the Triumph Scrambler 1200.

We would like to believe that Triumph will launch the Scrambler 1200 in India sometime in the first half of 2019 with the global launch in early 2019.

In preparation for the summit, tentatively scheduled for October 4 or 5, Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on Monday launched the brand logo for it besides a website for the potential investors to register themselves to participate in it.

While launching the logo and the website at his official residence, Chief Minister Singh said the mega event would be inaugurated by the Prime Minister and open up new avenues for investments in Uttarakhand by national and international business houses.

The proposed date for the summit, to be held at Maharana Pratap Sports Stadium in Dehradun, is October 4 or 5, which, however, can be adjusted in view of the likely visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to India on October 4, said officials engaged in preparation for the summit.

The investors, producers, manufacturers, policy makers and industrial organisations from around the world are likely to participate in the event titled “Destination Uttarakhand: Investors Summit 2018,” the chief minister said, adding the investment in the state will provide employment to local youths in large numbers.

The availability of electricity has also increased and the power tariffs are the lowest among all the states in north India. The state has also sufficient availability of skilled manpower,” he said.

The chief minister said Uttarakhand successfully held the the International Yoga Day earlier this year in Dehradun in “auspicious presence” of the Prime Minister, effectively spreading the message of Yoga from here across the country and the world.

The investors’ summit too would similarly be held successfully in the presence of the Prime Minister, making the state as a preferred destination for investors before soon, he said, adding there would be opportunities for investments in 12 fields, selected as per the target.

Commissioner (Industries) Saujanya told reporters that a total of 12 sectors have been selected for investment. The selected sectors are those of food processing, horticulture, herbal and aromatic, tourism, wellness and Ayush, pharmaceuticals, automobiles, sericulture and natural fibre, IT, renewable energy, biotechnology and the film shooting.

Apple to Remove iOS, macOS Apps From iTunes Affiliate Programme on October 1

Apple has just announced that it is making some major changes to its iTunes Affiliate Programme. The Cupertino tech giant said that starting October 1, apps for iOS and macOS will no longer be included in its iTunes Affiliate Programme. Apple says, after the launch of the new App Store interfaces for iOS and macOS, there are other methods of app discovery. With a lesser focus on the affiliate programme, commissions for iOS and Mac apps and in-app content will soon be removed by Apple.

In a post on the Affiliate Program Resources webpage, Apple explains that the decision to remove apps from its iTunes Affiliate Programme was due to the launch of the revamped App Stores for iOS and Mac. The company had rolled out a revamped iOS App Store with iOS 11, and is working on a new Mac App Store in macOS Mojave. Apple claims that the modifications to the iOS and Mac App Stores have ensured more methods of driving app discovery.

Movies, TV, Mac apps, Mac in-apps, iBooks, and paid apps currently earn a 7 percent commission rate while iOS in-app purchases and iTunes Music earn a 2.5 percent commission rate. With the latest information, the commission is gone completely. However, all other content types, including music, movies, books, and TV, will remain as a part of the programme.

Anna Hazare To Launch Hunger Strike Over Lokpal From October 2

Anna Hazare, who has been the face of the Lokpal movement, went on a 12-day hunger strike in 2011. (File)

Ralegan Siddhi, Maharashtra:

Social activist Anna Hazare said today he will launch a hunger strike from October 2 against the Union government for the delay in appointment of a Lokpal at the Centre.

He also appealed people to join him in his campaign for a corruption-free country.

“I will go on a hunger strike from October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, at my native Ralegan Siddhi village in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra,” the anti-corruption crusader told PTI.

He criticised the NDA government, saying it had earlier assured it will appoint the Lokpal and implement the Lokpal Bill, passed by Parliament and signed by the then President in January 2014.

“But there is a lack of will in this government to curb corruption and hence, it is giving a lot of reasons and delaying the appointment of the Lokpal,” Mr Hazare said.

Mr Hazare, who has been the face of the Lokpal movement, went on a 12-day hunger strike in 2011.

He later launched a fast, which garnered popular support across the country. The UPA government later passed the Lokpal bill.

The Supreme Court had earlier this week expressed dissatisfaction over the centre’s response on appointment of search committee members for a Lokpal.

The centre had earlier told the top court that the Lokpal selection committee, headed by the prime minister, was scheduled to meet to set up a search panel for recommending a panel of names for the appointment of the anti-graft ombudsman and its members.

The government had said the search panel would lay down its procedures, following which the selection committee would fix the time frame within which the names for selecting the chairman and members of the Lokpal would be recommended.

The committee comprises the prime minister, the chief justice of India, Lok Sabha speaker, the leader of the largest opposition party and an eminent jurist.

The top court, in its last year’s verdict, had said there was no justification to keep the enforcement of Lokpal Act suspended till the proposed amendments, including on the issue of the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, were cleared by Parliament.

It was a little over 2-year-ago, in May 2016, when Hyundai first announced its plan to revive the Santro brand name in India. A year later in 2017, the carmaker confirmed its plan to launch a new compact family car, with a tentative timeline for mid-2018 and it was widely speculated that the car will be named as the Santro. However, Hyundai is yet to confirm the name and we’ll finally get to know it this October.

Of course, there will be a 5-speed manual gearbox as well on offer.

Despite several sightings of the car, there is still not much known about the design and styling of the new hatchback, courtesy of the heavy camouflage. Having said that, judging by the partially visible bits on the multiple prototype models we have seen so far in India, we were able to figure out few design elements like the signature cascading grille, sweptback headlamps, and steel wheels with hubcaps. The cabin is also expected to get a new design layout and styling. Once launched, the car will compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Alto K10, Renault Kwid, and Tata Tiago.

Civilian Drones May Take To India’s Sky By October

The use of drones by civilians is currently restricted by aviation regulator DGCA.

New Delhi:

Drones for civilian purposes are likely to start flying in India from October onwards, a senior official said, as the Civil Aviation Ministry expects to soon put in place the regulatory framework for unmanned aerial vehicles.

The use of drones by civilians is currently restricted by aviation regulator DGCA.

Civil Aviation Secretary R N Choubey said the ministry is working on putting in place a system wherein registration and flying permission for civilian drones are done online.

“We are working on the system for online registration of drones for civilian purposes. The online registration as well as granting flying permission will start from October… Drones for civilian purposes will start flying from October onwards,” he told PTI.

At present, aircraft rules do not cover use of drones as well as their sale and purchase. In October 2014, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had restricted use of drones and unmanned aircraft system by civilians.

In November 2017, the ministry came out with draft norms for operating drones for civilian purposes.

According to the draft regulations, drones would require unique identification numbers while nano drones — those weighing below 250 grams — would be exempt from seeking one time approval.

Various restrictions have been proposed to ensure that the drones are used only for valid purposes. There would be ‘no drone zones’ that includes 50 kilometres from the international border.

A 13-member task force, headed by Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha, is in the process of preparing a road map for the implementation of unmanned aerial vehicle technology.

The task force would prepare a road map, including “outcomes, time lines, implementation & review mechanism and measurable metrics” for the implementation of UAV technology. Besides, the role of the industry would be clearly delineated, the ministry had said in a release in April.
