Fortnite 6.3 Patch Notes Reveal Addition of Food Fight Limited Time Mode and More

Fortnite for Android, iOS, PS4, Xbox One, and PC gets a new update that brings a new limited time mode called Food Fight. The Fortnite update 6.30 patch notes suggest that the Food Fight limited time mode has some elements in common with Splatoon 2 for the Nintendo Switch, what with Epic Games asking fans to choose between burgers or pizza on social media. In Fortnite Food Fight, two teams are on either side of the map. There’s a huge barrier down the middle. The objective is to build a fort to protect your restaurant mascot. When the barrier lowers, you’re tasked with destroying the enemy’s mascot to win. The Fortnite 6.30 update download size is around 152MB on iOS.

Fortnite update 6.30 Food Fight LTM patch notes

  • An impassable barrier will be spawned along the center of the map for the first several minutes.
  • Each team will have an under-construction restaurant near the center of the map. Inside is a giant mascot head representing that team.
  • If the mascot head is destroyed, that team loses the match.
  • Teams should use the time that the barrier is up to construct a defensive fortress around their restaurant.
  • As soon as the barrier lowers… fight to take out the enemy mascot before they destroy yours!
  • Special red supply drops spawn at the start of the match. These hold a handful of weapons, ammo, consumables, traps and a few hundred metal building materials.
  • Players will respawn after 7 seconds when eliminated, keeping their inventory.
  • Eliminated players spawn a percentage of their ammo upon elimination, as well as 30/30/60 wood/stone/metal materials.
  • 100 percent extra resources are gained from gathering.
  • Building resources found on the ground increased from 20 to 50 per instance.
  • No explosive weapons or items are in this mode.

Other additions include UI fixes to account for the Pixel 3 XL notch, improved UI in Fortnite Mobile, and better memory management on Fortnite Nintendo Switch.

Previously it was announced that Fortnite for Xbox One will get keyboard and mouse support soon. At X018, Microsoft stated that the feature would be available for the popular battle royale shooter from November 14. And if you were worried about keyboard and mouse Fortnite players having an advantage, Epic Games will match keyboard and mouse Fortnite players with those using the same input method to keep matches fair. Other games to offer keyboard and mouse support include DayZ, Warframe, War Thunder, Vermintide 2, Moonlighter, and Warface to name a few.

Keyboard and mouse support won’t be enabled by default for Xbox One games and will instead be “added on a title-by-title basis, entirely at developers’ discretion”, Microsoft noted when it announced the feature back in September. It further added: “Each development team knows their titles best and we support them in creating the right experience for their games as they see fit, to ensure an optimal and fair gaming experience.”

FIFA Mobile Gets New Season With Better Graphics, Team Chemistry System, Head to Head Multiplayer Mode

FIFA Mobile, one of the popular mobile games by EA Sports, has been updated on Android and iOS with a new season. The new update brings a list of much-awaited tweaks, including a “Head to Head” multiplayer mode as well as a new Team Chemistry system that boosts your starting lineup when you select players from the same real-world club, league, or nationality. Also, there is an upgraded gameplay engine that is touted to deliver a more realistic and responsive experience. EA has also made player likenesses look better than ever with a fresh set of star heads, authentic boots, and signature goal celebrations.

The new season of FIFA Mobile has an all-new gameplay engine that brings a “dramatically overhauled” animation system and artificial intelligence (AI) controlled players who play much more intelligently and realistically on both sides over the previous version. There are also better-looking players with authentic faces of many of the global football stars. EA has also uplifted the animation fidelity. This is claimed to help deliver an experience “with more passion and fluidity than any other football game available on mobile devices”.

Further, there are improvements on the part of celebrations as well. The company says that between dabs, backflips, and other moves, goal celebrations throughout the gameplay are authentic. Detailing is also there when it comes to visuals, such as the dresses and boots of the players. Moreover, off the pitch scenes, menus, and player items have been redesigned from the scratch to make FIFA Mobile an interesting game for the existing FIFA fans.

FIFA Mobile has also received a new Team Chemistry system that is designed to boost your starting lineup when you include players from the same real-world team, league, or country. You can experience the new addition and be able to build a team of strong contenders once you pick a few players from a popular real-world team.

If the new Team Chemistry system is not something that persuades you to install the latest FIFA Mobile on your Android or iOS device, EA has offered a real-time Head to Head multiplayer mode. This means you can play a tournament with competitors around the globe in a real time. You can also opt for the Amateur and Pro Divisions to play a match against an AI Trainer to improve your skills on the pitch.

EA has provided a list of minimum specs requirements for the Head to Head mode. There are models such as the iPhone 6 and later, iPad Air 2 and later, iPad mini 4 and later, Samsung Galaxy S6 and later, Galaxy Note 5 and later, Google Pixel and later, and OnePlus 3T and later among other devices in the list of recommended devices. Furthermore, the company points out that devices based on Snapdragon 2xx, Snapdragon 400 and 410, and Snapdragon 600 don’t meet the minimum specs.

OnePlus 6T, OnePlus 6 Get Pixel 3’s Impressive Night Sight Mode With Camera App Port

The updated Google Camera on the latest Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL has been lauded by reviewers, and the announced Night Sight mode has especially impressed many users. The tech giant detailed the feature at its Pixel event in October, but hasn’t rolled it out to Pixel phones yet. However, the APK version is available for Pixel series users to get a taste of what the Night Sight mode brings. It brightens up a low-light shot without the use of flash, while retaining sufficient detail. Now, a developer has managed to port the Google Camera with Night Sight and HDR+ to the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T as well, and the mode seems to work better than the stock camera’s highlight feature Nightscape mode as well.

XDA Developer reports that developer Arnova8G2 has managed to bring Night Sight mode to the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T, and this software works much better than the default camera app’s Nightscape mode as well. The Nightscape mode is specifically designed to help users capture low-light shots with improved clarity, less noise, and more accurate colour reproduction as well as a better dynamic range than what was available through the default camera app previously. However, with the photo comparisons provided by XDA, it seems that the Nightscape mode on the OnePlus 6 underperforms considerably when compared to the Night Sight mode on the OnePlus 6.

To gain in more light during low-light conditions, Night Sight takes up to 15 frames with a reasonably slow shutter to give you an effective exposure of about five seconds. This is a better workaround that than keeping the shutter open for four or five seconds, which would completely blur an image,

In our camera comparison review, we tried it on the Pixel 2 XL and Pixel 3 XL, and the results were quite impressive. Depending on the amount of light, it takes about three to four seconds to finish capturing all the frames, although this could be improved once the final version is out. Even though it’s impossible to stay absolutely still for this long when shooting handheld, the final shot was sharp and highly detailed compared to the one taken without Night Sight.

You can download the Google Camera with Night Sight port for the OnePlus 6 here and the OnePlus 6T here.

Similarly, the Razer Phone 2 also produces much better photos with the ported Google Camera app. B-S-G developed the Google Camera port for the Xiaomi Mi 8, and it seems to work for the Razer Phone 2 as well – XDA Developers reports. You can download the port from here.

This only goes to show that hardware isn’t the only important component for mobile photography. Software improvements are equally and maybe more important, something that Google very well understands. Therefore, it focuses on the Camera app improvements, and hasn’t added dual lenses, even on the Pixel 3 series, just to keep up with the trend.

Amazon Alexa Whisper Mode Begins Rolling Out, Is Disabled by Default

At its Amazon Alexa event last month, Amazon announced a new feature called whisper mode. The feature essentially enables Alexa to whisper when you whisper to it. It was announced to arrive in a couple of weeks, and now the company has reportedly confirmed that the Whisper Mode is now being rolled out to users in the US. This is one of the many attempts by Amazon to become context aware, and alongside whisper mode, Amazon had also launched Alexa Guard which will essentially make the voice assistant aware of smoke alarms, glass breaking, and other important noises.

TechCrunch reports that the whisper mode is rolling out to users in the US, and works in US English only for now. It is disabled by default, and users in the US will have to enable it via the Alexa app. Head to Settings > Alexa account > Alexa voice responses > Whispered responses to enable whisper mode. Separately, you can also turn it on by using the voice command, ” Alexa, turn on whisper mode.”

In order to bring whisper mode, the team had to build a neural network to figure out when you are whispering and the text-to-speech team had to figure out how to have Alexa whisper and play a lullaby.

Apart from this, Alexa is also set to get more conversational with a new feature called Follow-Up coming soon. It looks to bring contextual conversations to Alexa. For example, “What’s the weather in LA?” leads to info, “how far is it?” leads to the answer, and “recommend a restaurant there” will give eatery suggestions.

Google Maps Motorbike Mode Now in Kenya, First for Africa

Google, said on Monday it would offer Motorbike Mode on Google Maps in Kenya, offering the voice navigation service for bike riders in Africa for the first time.

Kenyan roads are full of motorcycles taxis, known as boda bodas, that are much cheaper rides to car taxis.

Google, part of the US firm Alphabet, already provides the service in Asian nations, such as India.

“For over a million Kenyans, boda bodas are a convenient and affordable way to move and transport goods from one place to another,” Google said in a statement.

“With Google Maps’ new Motorbike Mode, users across Kenya will now be able to get directions and turn-by-turn navigation, to suggest routes that are more efficient,” it said.

Streets in Kenyan cities and towns are often poorly signposted and frequently congested, making it hard for boda boda drivers to pick up customers when they hail them by phone.

“What prevents us from picking some clients is lack of navigation. If the road doesn’t have a clear name and you are new to the area, you get lost,” said Ben Chelule, a 24-year old boda boda driver in Nairobi.

Google also said it was launching its Street View service in Kenya for the first time, allowing users to virtually explore via its images 9,500 km (6,000 miles) of roads in cities such as Nairobi and holiday destinations such as Malindi on the coast.

The company has also set aside KES 100 million ($992,000) to train Kenyan farmers in digital skills, it added.

Google’s Kenya manager, Charles Murito, said the company had targeted farmers because it employed 40 percent of the population and accounted for a third of gross domestic product (GDP).

“We want to see the power of technology elevate small scale farming. We hope that through this initiative, we will see a positive impact in food security, job creation and GDP growth in Kenya,” he said.

NASA’s Chandra Telescope In Safe Mode Due To Glitch

Chandra, launched in 1999, is well beyond the original design lifetime of 5 years

Barely a week after NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope entered safe mode, its Chandra mission has also suffered a glitch possibly due to the failure of the gyroscope, the US space agency said.

The Chandra X-Ray Observatory, observing the universe in high-energy light since 1999, has entered a protective “safe mode”, which interrupts scientific observations and puts the spacecraft into a stable configuration.

“At approximately 9:55 a.m. EDT on Oct 10, NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory entered safe mode. The cause of the safe mode transition (possibly involving a gyroscope) is under investigation,” NASA said in a statement late on Friday.

During the safe mode, the observatory is put into a safe configuration, critical hardware is swapped to back-up units, the spacecraft points so that the solar panels get maximum sunlight, and the mirrors point away from the Sun.

“Analysis of available data indicates the transition to safe mode was normal behaviour for such an event. All systems functioned as expected and the scientific instruments are safe,” it added.

Chandra, launched in 1999, is well beyond the original design lifetime of 5 years. In 2001, NASA extended its lifetime to 10 years. It is now well into its extended mission and is expected to continue carrying out forefront science for many years to come.

The US space agency said that it continues to work towards resuming science operations of the Hubble Space Telescope.

On October 5, Hubble entered safe mode after one of the three gyroscopes (gyros) being used to point and steady the telescope failed. Gyroscopes help spacecraft maintain proper orientation.

Scientists are currently performing analyses and tests to determine what options are available to recover the gyro to operational performance.

Till then, science operations with Hubble have been suspended.

Besides Chandra and Hubble, NASA’s planet-hunting Kepler space telescope is also almost out of fuel.

Kepler has found about 70 per cent of all known alien worlds to date.

NASA’s Dawn spacecraft, which has been orbiting the dwarf planet Ceres since March 2015, is also nearly out of fuel and might run out as early as this month.

The space agency’s Mars rovers Opportunity and Curiosity too have faced issues recently.

Pokemon Go AR+ Mode Launched for Android Smartphones With ARCore Support

Pokemon Go AR+ Mode Launched for Android Smartphones With ARCore Support

Pokemon Go AR+ only works on phones that support ARCore

Niantic’s popular Pokemon Go game now has a new AR+ mode in Android. This allows users to experience the game with new AR features, and interact a little more with Pokemon in a real-world environment. The Pokemon Go AR+ mode works only if the ARCore app is downloaded from Google Play. It works only on smartphones that support ARCore, and if your device doesn’t support it, then you will not be able to view the new experience. To recall, Pokemon Go AR+ mode was launched for iOS 11 devices, featuring Apple’s ARKit framework, back in December last year. This launch for Android marks the first release for the Google-helmed platform.

Pokémon Go AR+ makes the Pokemon more interactive to the environment. It scales in different sizes based on how nearby the user is, and it will also be able to notice your movement and react to it. The Pokemon Go AR+ mode keeps the Pokemon fixed to a point in the real-world environment, and users can walk toward or around the Pokemon. It allows the user to get close to the Pokemon before throwing the Poke Ball to make the catch easier, and even increasing chances of earning Expert Handler bonus.

“Pokémon Go AR+ requires ARCore to be downloaded from the Google Play Store, so you should check first to see if your device is supported. Once downloaded, Pokémon Go AR+ offers the opportunity to have a unique AR experience when encountering Pokémon. As you walk up to a Pokémon, it scales in size and will notice your movement! Get up close before you throw your Poké Ball to make the Pokémon easier to catch, and even earn an Expert Handler bonus!! Or you can tap the camera icon to take a photo of your subject in the environment around you,” Niantic notes on its blog.

The Pokemon Go AR+ mode will automatically show up as an option to toggle on every time a compatible Pokemon shows up, and alternatively, the AR+ mode can be enabled in the Settings menu as well. Recently, it was also reported that Pokemon Go might soon see a new generation of Pokemon in “Gen 4” from the region called Sinnoh.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Gameplay Trailer Shows Off First-Person Mode, Dead Eye Shooting, and More

The latest Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR 2) gameplay trailer shows off new ways to play the Wild West open-world game such as experiencing the entire game in first-person mode. Rockstar Games gave us a glimpse of what to expect from the game when played from this perspective and it looks interesting to say the least. In addition to this is a revamped Dead Eye shooting mechanic that was present in the first Red Dead Redemption. From what we’ve seen, it’s not too dissimilar to the mark and execute system seen in Splinter Cell: Blacklist and Point Shooting in Hitman Absolution though Rockstar Games claims Red Dead Redemption 2’s Dead Eye shooting willing evolve as you progress, making for some action-packed encounters.

Furthermore, the studio waxed eloquent on how choice works in Red Dead Redemption 2 and that your actions have consequences with non-playable characters remembering what you’ve done to them in-game. The trailer also touched its heists, side-quests, and a bounty system not too different from the likes of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Shadow of War. All of this could possibly be why Red Dead Redemption 2 allegedly has a 105GB file size.

According to information gleaned from the recently announced Red Dead Redemption 2 PS4 bundles via fan site Rockstar Intel, you’ll need to keep a fair bit of space free on your PS4 (and most likely Xbox One) hard drive. The Red Dead Redemption 2 PS4 file size is 105GB. It’s unclear if this is the Red Dead Redemption 2 download size as well. Depending on the compression method used, Red Dead Redemption 2’s download size may be smaller and it’s safe to say a large chunk of this should already be on the PS4 and Xbox One discs if you’re buying a physical copy.

We’d speculate that the 105GB file size includes both single and multiplayer content. The physical version may just have Red Dead Redemption 2’s single-player component or it may just ship on two discs. It will be fascinating how Red Dead Redemption 2’s download would be handled and if Rockstar Games has different installer packages for multiplayer and single-player. Not too long before we know for sure. Red Dead Redemption 2’s release date is October 26.

WhatsApp Said to Be Bringing ‘Swipe to Reply’ Feature to Android; Dark Mode May Arrive Soon Too

WhatsApp is reportedly working to bring the Swipe to Reply feature to its Android app. The messaging app has had an eventful 2018 as it has been launching and testing new features with high frequency. The WhatsApp iPhone app already has the Swipe to Reply feature, which seems set to be making its way to Android devices. The new feature will let WhatsApp users quickly reply to a message using a swipe right gesture. It essentially means you will no longer need to tap and hold the message to get the Reply button. Additionally, the app is also said to be working on a Dark Mode.

As per a WABetaInfo report, WhatsApp is working on the Swipe to Reply feature in the Android app. The messaging app has recently submitted a new update through the Google Play Beta Programme, bringing the beta version up to 2.18.282. The report claims that the feature is currently not available due to “development reasons” and that it needs to receive several improvements before being officially available for all WhatsApp for Android users. However, the report adds that the new WhatsApp feature may be available in one of the next few updates.

When the Swipe to Reply feature is available on WhatsApp for Android, you will be able to swipe a message that you want to reply to, towards the right side. Following this, WhatsApp will automatically load the message in the reply context.

Coming to the Dark Mode, WhatsApp is finally said to be working on adding the much-awaited feature. According to a tweet posted by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp has finally started working on a Dark Mode for both iOS and Android. However, the report does not mention the exact timeline for the Dark Mode to roll-out to WhatsApp.

The upcoming dark mode feature will help reduce strain on user’s eyes while using WhatsApp at night or in low-light conditions. It will also help conserve battery on phones that have OLED displays.
