indore twinkle dagre murder On the lines of drishyam movie

The same system will be introduced on Red Line too, once it is extended up to Ghaziabad. (File)

New Delhi:

To bring uniformity across the network, the first coach in the moving direction of Delhi metro trains will be reserved for women on all corridors, except for the Red Line, Delhi Metro officials said on Monday.

Till now, the first and the last coaches in trains were alternately used as ‘ladies’ coach’, depending on the up and down line.

“The first and the last coach at the terminal stations of Line 1 (Red Line-Dislhad Garden to Rithala), Line 5 (Green Line- Inderlok/Kirti Nagar to Brig. Hoshiar Singh), Line 6 (Violet Line- Kashmere Gate to Raja Nahar Singh), Line 7 (Pink Line-Majlis Park to Mayur Vihar Pkt-1 & Trilokpuri-Sanjay Lake to Shiv Vihar) and Line 8 (Magenta Line- Botanical Garden to Janakpuri West) were alternately used as ladies’ coach on the up and and down lines respectively,” the DMRC said in a statement.

The new system has been introduced to ensure more convenience to commuters and maintain uniformity among all the metro stations across the DMRC network.

The same system will soon be introduced on the Red Line, too, once it is extended up to Ghaziabad, a DMRC official said.

“Necessary announcements in the trains and at stations regarding this will be made to ensure smooth transition to the new arrangement. Also, the floor graphics and the ‘Women Only’ hanging signs are being removed and fixed at all the stations of these lines,” he said.

This would be the last section of the longest Pink Line of the Delhi Metro network.

New Delhi:

Delhi Metro’s Lajpat Nagar-Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 section of Pink Line will be open to public from next week as it has been given all the necessary approvals from the Safety Commissioner, the Delhi Metro Rail Corp (DMRC) said on Thursday.

“The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety has accorded the mandatory approval for the commencement of passenger operations on the 9.7-km-long Lajpat Nagar-Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 section of the Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar corridor (Pink Line) of Delhi Metro,” it said.

Caste Fault Lines Exploited By Divisive Elements: PM Modi Cautions Police

PM Modi said police personnel work hard in adverse circumstances. (File)

Ahmedabad:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday cautioned the security  establishment about “divisive elements” exploiting the caste fault lines for short term gains and pitched for isolating them at the grass-roots level.

He also urged police force to be vigilant in countering the “dark forces of radicalisation, and to engender trust among all communities across the nation”, a statement from his office said.

Addressing the annual DGP, IGP conference at Krvadiya in Gujarat, the prime minister noted that “caste fault lines are being exploited by divisive elements for short term gains”.

He urged police force to continue working for the unity and the integrity of India.

“Let us strengthen forces that promote unity and isolate divisive forces at the grass-roots level,” the statement said quoting PM Modi.

He praised police force for their success in countering terrorism, and limiting it to a small geographic area of the country.

He said the people of the country are, in particular, proud of police force in Jammu and Kashmir for their role in countering terrorists and successfully engaging them.

Addressing the valedictory event, PM Modi said police personnel work hard in adverse circumstances.

Yet, he added, they often do not receive the recognition they deserve. He called upon senior officers to work towards greater recognition of police personnel who work for the benefit of the people.

He said that social media can be used effectively for this purpose.

The prime minister emphasised on the need for capacity-building in police force on the subject of cyber security.

PM Modi also presented the President’s Police Medals for Distinguished Service to Intelligence Bureau officers. He congratulated and appreciated the medal winning officers of IB for their dedication and commitment to service.

The prime minister released a commemorative postage stamp on the National Police Memorial. He said the memorial should become a source of inspiration for all.

He launched the portal of the Cyber Coordination Centre. This is envisaged as an umbrella platform that will help law enforcement agencies coordinate their efforts to solve all cyber crimes and incidents.

How Arvind Kejriwal’s Attacker Sneaked Chilli Powder Through Police Lines

Anil Sharma continued to berate Arvind Kejriwal even as he was being dragged away.

New Delhi:

When 40-year-old Anil Kumar Sharma entered the Delhi Secretariat complex on Tuesday afternoon, he was just another face among the thousands who drop by to get their grievances redressed everyday. A couple of hours later, he was all over the news.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was only just leaving for lunch from his third-floor chamber when Mr Sharma approached him with what looked like a letter and fell down on his feet. But no sooner had Mr Kejriwal taken the letter from him that Mr Sharma lunged foward and smeared chilli powder on his face. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said the Chief Minister’s eyes were spared only because of his glasses, which — unfortunately — did not survive the ordeal.

The incident led to yet another verbal altercation, with the Delhi Police saying that the attack could have been “unintentional” and the AAP government accusing the former of “completely failing” to protect the Chief Minister. Mr Sharma was booked only by Tuesday night, around eight hours after the attack.

But in the melee, some questions remained unanswered. Who is Mr Sharma, how did he succeed in entering the Delhi Secretariat armed with his little packet of chilli powder, and why exactly did he attack the Chief Minister?

PTI quoted sources as saying that the attacker had entered the government complex on the pretext of approaching Public Grievance Monitoring System (PGMS) officials on behalf of an ailing relative. Crossing the first hurdle — the Delhi Secretariat’s reception — was not difficult. “Anil Sharma was seeking help for an ailing relative. He was issued a pass after the authorities received a call from the PGMS office located in the building,” an official said.

Next, he had to pass through gate number 6, where men and women are separately frisked before being let in. Mr Kumar apparently succeeded in taking the chilli powder inside the high-security establishment in a packet of chewing tobacco, something that AAP leaders termed as a “major security lapse” on the part of the centre-controlled Delhi Police. “What if he was carrying a weapon?” Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia asked at a press conference, alleging a “conspiracy” between the BJP and the Delhi Police.

Incidentally, the attack took place a day after the Chief Minister reviewed the functioning of the PGMS and directed department heads to treat people’s complaints on priority.

Mr Sharma’s Facebook page identifies him as a student of NREC College in Uttar Pradesh’s Khurja and a member of the BJP. His political views are also decidedly right-wing, with some posts calling for the early construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya and others lambasting everybody from Mr Kejriwal to Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav.

The attacker was heard criticising the Delhi Chief Minister even while he was being dragged away by the police. “Arvind Kejriwal is a traitor and the BJP is a party of true patriots,” Mr Sharma screamed, adding that he was a true patriot too.

However, even the BJP did not seem to approve of his actions on Tuesday. “Such incidents cannot be tolerated or justified by anybody. This calls for a high-level probe,” Manoj Tiwari — the head of the party’s Delhi unit — said, condemning the attack.

ISRO Lines Up 10 Missions Before January 2019 After Satellite Launch

GSAT-29 project director K Pankaj Damodar said, the launch will help bridge the “digital divide”

Sriharikota:

ISRO has chalked out hectic plans ahead of the new year with the space agency lining up 10 missions before January 2019, the space agency’s chief K Sivan said Wednesday.

Following the missions, Mr Sivan said, in January next, ISRO would launch the Chandrayaan-II mission (lunar lander) which will be the first operational mission of the GSLV-Mk III-vehicle.

Addressing reporters after the successful launch of the second developmental flight GSLV-MkIII-D2 carrying communication satellite GSAT-29, he said, “we have to achieve 10 missions before January.”

“That is six satellite missions as well as four launch vehicle missions. Definitely, the task in front of us is very huge,” he said.

According to him, after Wednesday’s flight, the heaviest launcher of India has completed its development flights and is entering into the operational group of launchers of ISRO, that is along with the PSLV (polar satellite launch vehicle) and GSLV.

GSAT-29 satellite carries important payloads in Ka and Ku band and it is going to serve the remote places of India especially Jammu and Kashmir as well as North East under the ‘Digital India’ programme, Mr Sivan said.

Apart from the Ku band communication payload, he said, the satellite also has optical communication payload as well as high resolution camera.

“This advanced payload is really going to make a technological breakthrough in the GSAT satellite series in future,” he said.

According to ISRO scientists, the Master Control Facility at Hassan has assumed control of the GSAT-29 satellite.

“In the coming days, three orbit raising manoeuvres will be executed to position the satellite in geostationary orbit at its designated location,” an official said.

While the Geo High Resolution camera will carry out high resolution imaging, the optical communication payload will demonstrate data transmission at a very high rate through optical communication link, he said.

GSAT-29 project director K Pankaj Damodar said, the launch will help bridge the “digital divide.”

The first successful mission of GSLV MkIII was an experimental sub-orbital flight in 2014. GSLV-Mk III-D1 successfully launched GSAT-19 a high throughput communication satellite on June 5, 2017.

Bihar Government Sacks 175 Constables Over Violence At Patna Police Lines

The Bihar Military Police managed to bring the rampaging constables under control.

Patna:

As many as 175 constables were dismissed from service by the Bihar Government in an unprecedented move on Sunday, two days after clashes erupted at the Patna Police Lines over the death of an ailing policewoman. Barring eight, all of them were trainees recently inducted into the police force.

The government also suspended 23 police officers, including several assistant sub-inspectors, in connection with the incident. The dismissed personnel were charged with indiscipline, indulging in violent acts, attacking senior police officers and damaging government property.

According to sources, the woman — Savita — had been unable to take leave despite being unwell for a few days. Although she was rushed to a private hospital after her condition worsened on Wednesday morning, she died soon afterwards. On Friday, hundreds of police personnel went on a rampage at the Patna Police Lines — damaging vehicles and attacking colleagues.

Civilians and mediapersons waiting outside were also assaulted in the chaos. It was only after the Bihar Military Police, an armed division of the state police, arrived at the scene that the situation was brought under control.

The Bihar government ordered an inquiry by Central Zone Inspector General Nayyar Hasnain Khan, who submitted a report within 48 hours. He has reportedly recommended the transfer of over 90 policemen posted in Patna for over 10 years, among other disciplinary measures.
