The Wait For Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh’s Wedding Pics Best Described By Smriti Irani

New Delhi:

Looks like Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh have taken the no-photos policy a bit too seriously for their wedding. Deepika and Ranveer’s South Indian wedding concluded on Wednesday morning but no photos of the newly-weds have been shared on social media yet. In the history of recent celebrity weddings, social media has never worked so hard as they are doing to catch a glimpse of the new bride and the groom. While fans on twitter have set tags such as ‘DeepikaWedsRanveer’ and ‘DeepVeerKiShaadi’ and ‘DeepVeerWedding’ trending, Union Minister Smriti Irani has aptly described how the wait for the first pictures of the couple seem a never-ending one.

Smriti Irani, who has a reputation for her hilarious posts on social media, zeroed in on a photo of a skeleton to say this: “When you have waited for Deep-Veer wedding pics for too longgggg.” You see the extra ‘g’s? LOL.

Here’s are few glimpses of #DeepVeerKiShaadi from what fan-clubs have shared:

The close-knit wedding, which includes a guest list of 45 names, is so much of a private affair that singer Harshdeep Kaur, who is performing at the wedding functions, had to take down her tweet today. It is reported that Deepika and Ranveer want to release the first pictures of their wedding on their own social media accounts. Deepika’s sister Anisha Padukone, complying with the no-photo police, updated her Instagram bio as “ladkiwale.” So sweet. Meanwhile, fan-clubs have curated these images.

A video shared by ANI, who shared the news of Deepika and Ranveer’s ‘married’ status, also tweeted a video of the wedding guests escorting the newly-weds to the boat. Ranveer and Deepika’s wedding functions are being held at Villa del Balbianello on Lake Como. Deepika and Ranveer appeared to be hiding their faces behind huge umbrellas.

Deepika and Ranveer’s North Indian wedding is scheduled for Thursday. An engagement party reportedly happened last night while Deepika and Ranveer also said to have enjoyed sangeet and mehendi ceremonies. Deepika and Ranveer have planned for two reception parties after the wedding festivities in Italy – one in Deepika’s hometown Bengaluru on November 21 and a grand Bollywood party in Mumbai on November 28.

Smriti Irani: Will You Take Blood-Soaked Sanitary Pads To Friend’s?: Smriti Irani On Sabarimala

New Delhi:

Everyone has the right to pray, but not to desecrate, Union Minister Smriti Irani today said in the middle of a fierce debate over the ban on women of menstrual age entering Kerala’s famous Sabarimala shrine and a Supreme Court order overturning it.

“I am nobody to comment on the Supreme Court verdict but I believe I have the right to pray, but not the right to desecrate,” Smriti Irani, 42, said at an event in Mumbai called the Young Thinkers’ Conference.

“It is plain common sense. Would you take sanitary napkins soaked in menstrual blood into a friend’s home? So why would you take them into the house of God,” said the minister.

She shared an incident when she had to wait outside a temple, with her son inside. “I was once shooed away from praying inside a fire temple at Andheri and handed over my son to priest for completing Navjote formalities. I stood on the road outside and prayed,” she said.

The comments have provoked sharp reactions on social media.

The Supreme Court last month ended a centuries-old ban on women of menstruating age, or between 10 and 50 years, entering the Sabarimala shrine dedicated to Lord Ayyappa, a celibate god.

But no woman below 50 could enter the temple when it opened for the first time since the court order last week, amid massive protests by priests and hundreds of devotees who refused to let go of the archaic tradition. Both the BJP and the Congress backed the protesters and demanded that Kerala’s Left government come up with an ordinance or special order to override the Supreme Court order and restore the ban.

Writer Honey Irani Says, ‘Don’t Mock’ The #MeToo Movement

A file photo of Honey Irani at the Gold screening.

Mumbai:

Veteran writer Honey Irani, maternal aunt of director Sajid Khan who has been accused of sexual harassment, says it’s important not to “mock” the #MeToo movement.

“It’s sad that now that women are talking, most people don’t listen, and ask why did you not speak up then? Well this is exactly why, when you can’t deal with it now, imagine how could you 10 or 15 years back. If you can’t support this movement, fine, but please don’t mock it, the Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai writer tweeted.

Sajid has been named by multiple women for sexual misconduct. The actor-director stepped down as Housefull 4 director, saying he was doing so “Till the time I can allay the allegations and prove the truth”.

When the accusations against Sajid emerged, his sister Farah Khan and cousin Farhan Akhtar expressed disappointment, saying if these are true, he has a lot to atone for.

The #MeToo wave has been on high tide in India ever since Tanushree Dutta renewed a 10-year-old allegation against Nana Patekar, leading several women from across professions to name and shame sexual offenders and predators. In some cases, matters have gone to court.

Naveen Patnaik Depriving Odisha On Political Consideration: Smriti Irani

Bhubaneswar:

Union minister Smriti Irani on Sunday accused Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik of depriving the people of the state from the benefits of central schemes such as Ayushman Bharat, “on political consideration”.

About the fuel price issue, she said even as the NDA government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has slashed fuel prices by Rs 2.50 per litre, Naveen Patnaik was not ready to reduce state tax for giving relief to the people.

Addressing a BJP state executive meeting in Bhubaneswar, the Union textiles minister said, “Naveen Patnaik has deprived the people of Odisha from the benefits of Ayushman Bharat scheme on political consideration.”

Justifying her allegation, Ms Irani told reporters that Mr Patnaik “rejected” the Ayushman Bharat scheme despite the fact that over 60 per cent of Odisha’s women and children suffer from anemia and the state ranks number one in birth of stunted children.

Despite of the health scenario in the state, Naveen Patnaik preferred to reject the Ayushman Bharat scheme, Ms Irani said, adding, “The poor people are now raising question why they should not avail the benefits of the central scheme.”

Claiming that atrocities against women have been increasing in the state by the day, she said, “The BJD government has failed to maintain law and order in the state and provide protection to women and girls.”

On the BJP’s agenda of securing more than 120 of the total 147 seats in the Odisha Assembly, Smriti Irani said, “The BJP’s Mission 120 plus is not just about securing power in the state, it also aims to raise public awareness on issues of women atrocities, unemployment, corruption.”

The Union textiles minister said some BJP workers, during the state executive meeting, drew her attention to a proposal to revive the Odisha Textile Mills (OTM).

“Yes, the OTM can be revived, but the state government should take initiative towards this direction. The Centre will certainly extend a helping hand,” she said, adding that 50 per cent of the workers in Tirupur textile cluster in Tamil Nadu hailed from Odisha.

“If Odisha women and girls can make Tirupur Textile cluster successful, why cannot they do it in their state?” Ms Irani asked.

Reacting to Smriti Irani’s allegation, the spokesman of the ruling BJD, Sasmit Patra, said “The BJP is afraid of Odisha government’s Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana. The BSKY offers better facilities than the Ayushman Bharat scheme.”

About Smriti Irani’s claim about rise in the atrocities against women in Odisha, the BJD spokesman said, “The Union minister should first say how safe women are in BJP-ruled states.”

On fuel price issue, Sasmit Patra said, “The BJP government announced reduction of fuel price by Rs 2.50 per litre keeping in view the elections in five states. They (BJP) are not worried about the people.”

Smriti Irani targets Rahul Gandhi for his comment on PM Narendra Modi

खास बातें

Village In Rahul Gandhi’s Amethi To Go Digital Tomorrow, Courtesy Smriti Irani

Smriti Irani is set to launch the “digital avatar” of the village in a ceremony on Saturday.

Amethi:

A village in Rahul Gandhi’s Amethi constituency in Uttar Pradesh will go digital from September, with access to over 200 government services at the click of a mouse, courtesy Union Minister Smriti Irani.

The Pindara Thakur village in the Congress president’s constituency has been picked under the Digital India Programme of the government.

Smriti Irani is set to launch the “digital avatar” of the village in a ceremony on Saturday.

The minister has frequently visited the Gandhi family stronghold and has been pitched by the BJP as Mr Gandhi’s rival in the constituency. She contested the 2014 Lok Sabha election from Amethi but lost to Mr Gandhi by over one lakh votes.

A local official, Devi Dayal Verma, told the Press Trust of India that villagers of Pindara Thakur would be linked with Wi Fi Chaupal and may use 2 GB free data for 15 days to start with. Later, this service would be provided to them at cheaper rates.

The central minister will also inaugurate the ‘Digital India Banking Service’ at the head post office of Amethi in Amethi town to boost the payment services in post offices.

TV Actress Sanaya Irani On Vikram Bhatt, The Co-Star

New Delhi:

Actress Sanaya Irani who co-stars with Vikram Bhatt, also a filmmaker, in upcoming web-series Zindabaad told news agency IANS that it’s quite easy to work with him. Sanaya said that Vikram Bhatt did not poach the director’s job and performed as he was told. “It was really easy working with him. He just let Sidhant Sachdev do all the directing. It’s not like Vikram got into the direction part. He was just doing his bit. I was doing my bit. Once in a while after cut, I would ask him ‘Is it okay Vikram?’ He would say ‘Yeah’. We were just being good actors,” Sanaya told IANS. Vikram Bhatt has directed film like the Raaz series, Madhosh and Footpath. Vikram also has also made web-series like Twisted, Gehraiyaan and Spotlight.

Like Vikram Bhatt, Sanaya Irani is also getting a makeover of sorts with the web-series. Sanaya, who has featured in shows like Mile Jab hum Tum and Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?, plays the role of a RAW agent in Zindabaad.

Speaking about the show, Sanaya said: “Every actor wants to do something different. I was really excited as it was something that I had never done before. That was a big reason for me to say yes. When I heard the whole story… it is the kind of story where you don’t know what will happen next. So, I found that very interesting. It’s a perfect binge-watch kind of a show.”

“As an actor, I am really greedy. I always want to do something new and different. There is nothing better than the digital platform for that. I don’t think any actor would be unhappy doing digital work,” Sanaya added.

After Zindabaad, Sanaya will shoot for another web-series, title Vodka Shots. “I have only shot the promo of ‘Vodka Shots’. I haven’t shot for a single episode,” she said.
