Case Against Local BJP Leader For Allegedly Raping Woman In Chhattisgarh

Raipur:

A local BJP leader was booked for allegedly raping a teenager in the tribal-dominated Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh , the police said on Monday.

The police said that the parents of the 19-year-old girl had filed a case of rape at Kansabel police station on August 7 against Motilal Bhagat (45), president of the Kansabel Janpad Panchayat in Jashpur.

The complaint had alleged that Bhagat had raped the girl in October 2016 while she was a class 12 student staying in Kansabel in a rented house.

The complaint stated that Bhagat had married her in Odisha in January this year despite he being already married.

Bhagat left the girl in June following which her parents filed a complaint, the official said, adding that Bhagat had been charged with rape, kidnapping and criminal intimidation.

Sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act were also invoked as the girl was a minor when the accused had raped her earlier.

Chief Minister Raman Singh Is ‘Bhishma Pitamah’: Chhattisgarh Minister

Raman Singh is an Ayurvedic doctor-turned politician. (File)

Raipur:

Chhattisgarh minister Ajay Chandrakar has likened state Chief Minister Raman Singh to Bhishma Pitamah, a character from the ‘Mahabharata’, saying the three-time CM has the power to decide his own victory and defeat in the polls.

Mr Chandrakar made the remarks in Raipur on Friday at the launch of ‘Mukhyamantri MGNREGA Mazdoor Tiffin Vitaran Yojana‘ under which tiffin box sets will be distributed free of cost to around 10.83 lakh labourers in the state.

“Doctor sahab is blessed with ‘ichhamrityu’ (power to decide the time and manner of one’s death). In the Mahabharata, no one had the ability to defeat Bhishma Pitamah and he was well aware that when and how he will die,” he said.

“Like him (Bhishma Pitamah), only doctor sahab (Raman Singh) knows when he will lose or not. He very well knows that he has the strength of love of poor people of Chhattisgarh with him,” he said.

Raman Singh is an Ayurvedic doctor-turned politician. Addressing the gathering in local Chhattisgarhi language, the Panchayat and Rural Development Minister further said, “And why has he got the blessing of ‘ichhamrityu‘ Because he has taken a pledge to serve the state.”

“Until he makes Chhattisgarh the most developed state in the country, he won’t tell the secret about how he will lose (the elections) and how he will die. He knows he has blessings of the people of the state and till his goal is not achieved, he will not step down,” he said.

Meanwhile, opposition Congress thanked the minister for “admitting” that they (BJP party) belong to “Kaurava sena” of the Mahabharata as Bhishma Pitamah was fighting from their side. “By comparing Raman Singh with Bhishma Pitamah, they have at least admitted that they are part of the Kaurav sena.

Mr Chandrakar has himself accepted this…what is wrong and right has been established. We are thankful to Mr Chandrakar,” Leader of Opposition T S Singh deo told PTI. It is believed that in the Mahabharata, the Kauravas led by Duryodhana represented ‘adharma‘ (wrong) and Pandavas led by Yudhisthira symbolised ‘dharma (right).

Chhattisgarh minister Ajay Chandrakar Compare Raman singh To Bhishma Pitamah –

Naxals Kill Man Over Suspicion of Being Police Informer in Chhattisgarh

Soon after being informed about the incident, a police team was sent to the place. (Representational)

Raipur:

A 35-year-old man was killed by naxals in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh, after accusing him of being a police informer, a police official said today.

The deceased, identified as Lokesh Kartam, was attacked by naxals late last night at his house in Bade Gudra village under Kuakonda police station limits, the official said.

“As per the preliminary information, a group of armed naxals stormed into Kartam’s house and killed him with sharp weapons,” Dantewada Additional Superintendent of Police Gorakhnath Baghel told PTI.

Soon after being informed about the incident, a police team was sent to the place this morning and the body was brought to the police station, he said.

“According to the villagers, the ultras claimed that Kartam was working at the behest of police,” Mr Baghel said adding that the victim was not associated with the police in any way.

A case has been registered in this connection and a search operation has been launched in the area to trace the ultras, he added.

With this, Dantewada district has witnessed four incidents of attack by Naxals in the last three days.

These attacks are being viewed as Naxals’ reaction to the death of their 15 colleagues in an encounter with security forces in neighbouring Sukma district on August 6.

Two days after the encounter, naxals had torched two buses and a truck in Bhansi area of Dantewada after asking occupants of the vehicles to alight. Police had later recovered a human skeleton inside one of the charred buses.

In another incident on the same day, the engine of an empty rake of the Visakhapatnam-Kirandul passenger train derailed after Naxals uprooted railway tracks near Kamaloor railway station in Dantewada.

On August 9, Maoists had torched a JCB machine, engaged in pipeline laying works, in Kuakonda area, while yesterday, they had set ablaze five empty trucks in Bacheli area of the district.
