Jaguar F-Type Rally Cars Celebrate 70 Years Of Sports Cars

The rally cars’ livery takes design inspiration from the new F-Type Chequered Flag Limited Edition, which features a range of subtle exterior visual enhancements, including unique 20-inch Gloss Black wheels with a Diamond Turned finish and a Black Contrast roof on the Coupe

Jaguar has developed two F-Type Convertible rally cars, with design cues from the F-Type Chequered Flag Limited Edition. This continues the company’s celebration of 70 years of sports car heritage since the XK 120 was revealed in 1948. The one-off F-Type rally cars also pay homage to the Jaguar XK 120 registered ‘NUB 120’ which, in the early 1950s in the hands of Ian Appleyard, completed three consecutive Alpine Rallies without incurring a single penalty point, and won the RAC and Tulip.

Both rally-specification F-Type Convertibles are powered by Jaguar’s 2.0-litre Ingenium four-cylinder petrol engine which churns out 296 bhp. With modifications overseen by Jaguar Design and Engineering, both cars were built to FIA specification, with comprehensively uprated brakes and suspension fitted alongside a protective rollcage, race-seats with six-point harness, bonnet-mounted light pod and fire extinguisher.

The rally F-Types feature upgrades to the brakes, suspension and drivetrain including the addition of grooved discs with four-piston calipers front and rear. Hand-built competition dampers and softer springs ensure the high performance cars can be driven flat-out over rough rally stages. Three-way adjustable dampers allow the cars to be tuned for different surfaces and feature spherical bearings for added precision. With motorsport-spec wheels and tyres specifically for use on gravel, a limited-slip differential improves power delivery on loose surfaces while a hydraulic handbrake helps drivers tackle hairpin bends.

The celebratory models were put through their paces at Walters Arena rally stage, South Wales, to demonstrate their performance credentials and will now attend a series of Jaguar events over the next few months.

The rally cars’ livery takes design inspiration from the new F-Type Chequered Flag Limited Edition, which features a range of subtle exterior visual enhancements, including unique 20-inch Gloss Black wheels with a Diamond Turned finish and a Black Contrast roof on the Coupe. Inside, the luxurious Ebony Windsor Leather interior features Performance seats with embossed Chequered Flag headrests and a Dark Brushed Aluminium centre console trim finisher.

Ian Callum, Jaguar Director of Design, said, “The opportunity to design a rally car doesn’t come along very often so I was fascinated to see how we could take our modern day sports car to a similar character. These models are a fitting tribute to the XK 120 and all the great Jaguar sports cars since its reveal 70 years ago, including the latest F-Type Chequered Flag Limited Edition.”

Upset Over Tej Pratap’s Divorce Plans, Rabri Devi Not To Celebrate Chhath

Former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi, upset over elder son Tej Pratap’s planned divorce from his wife, and his threat that he won’t return home unless his parents supported his decision, will not celebrate Chhath Puja this year.

“Rabri Devi will not celebrate Chhath this year because the family is worried over Tej Pratap’s absence from Patna for the last one week,” Bhola Yadav, a Rashtriya Janata Dal legislator considered close to party chief Lalu Prasad’s family, said here on Saturday.

Bhola Yadav told IANS that Rabri Devi was unhappy over Tej Pratap’s reported statement that he won’t return home until his parents approved of his decision to divorce.

“In such a situation, Rabri Devi will not celebrate Chhath,” he said.

He admitted that the family has been trying hard to persuade Tej Pratap to return home soon, but to no avail.

RJD leaders said that Tej Pratap was camping in Haridwar after visiting Varanasi a few days ago.

Tej Pratap, a former Health Minister in the Bihar government, has not returned home since he met his jailed father Lalu Prasad in Ranchi last week and discussed his decision to divorce his wife Aishwarya Rai.

Tej Pratap married Aishwarya, daughter of RJD legislator and former Minister Chandrika Rai and granddaughter of former Bihar Chief Minister Daroga Rai, on May 12 in Patna.

Tej Pratap filed for divorce in a Patna civil court on November 2 citing ‘mental cruelty’.

With Rabri’s decision not to celebrate Chhath — Bihar’s most popular festival — people will miss a rare festivity at her sprawling official bungalow 10, Circular Road.

Last year, Rabri Devi had said she would celebrate Chhath only after her two sons — Tej Pratap Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav — got married.

Tehashwi Yadav, the current Leader of Opposition and a former deputy Chief Minister, is the heir apparent of the RJD.

The four-day Chhath starts on Monday with the ‘Nahai-Khai’ ritual. Devotees, mostly married women, will throng river banks early in the morning for a ritualistic bath, before preparing the traditional meal of boiled rice and pumpkin.

RJD leaders said that Rabri Devi’s Chhath celebration is popular as politicians, irrespective of party affiliation, and people from all faiths and communities visited for the traditional ‘prasad’ during the festival.

“Till 2016, Rabri Devi, helped by Lalu himself, used to draw a large number of people during Chhath, but this year they will miss it,” an RJD leader said.

The ‘Nahai-Khai’ will be followed by ‘Kharna’, when ‘Kheer’ will be cooked and distributed among neighbours, friends and relatives.

During the festival, married women observe a fast for 36 hours and devotees offer wheat preparations, milk, sugarcane, bananas and coconuts to the Sun God.

Chhath is the only festival across India in which devotees offer salutations to both the setting and the rising Sun.

Empire State Building, New York Lights Up In Orange To Celebrate Diwali 2018

Happy Diwali 2018: This was the first time that Diwali celebration lit up the Empire State Building

New York:

For the first time, the iconic Empire State Building was lit orange in celebration of Diwali. The world famous structure turned orange on Wednesday night as Indians across the world celebrated the festival of lights. The Federation of Indian Associations (FIA), the largest non-profit umbrella organisation in the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut of the Indian community, lit up the monument in a special ceremony.

It was organised by the FIA in cooperation with the Empire State Realty Trust and attended by key members of the Indian diaspora. A special dance performance and cultural show was also presented on the occasion.

Federation of Indian Associations President Srujal Parikh said this was the first time that Diwali celebration lit up the iconic building and was “witnessed by thousands of people, including tourists from all over the world.”

At the November 7 ceremony, Miss America 2014 Nina Devuluri and popular singer Jay Sean along with Srujal Parikh flipped the switch to turn on the orange lights on top of the Empire State Building.

The Empire State Realty Trust or ESRT and the FIA have been illuminating the Empire State Building in August every year in the colours of the Indian tricolour – orange, white and green – for the past two decades to mark India’s Independence Day.

The FIA said such gestures by the ESRT help in spreading the ancient Indian philosophy of Vasudeva Kutumbakam (the world is one family) and also demonstrates a great harmony in spirit and deeds between people of the world’s largest and oldest democracies.

For Srujal Parikh, that was the central message when he organised the India Day parade this year, bringing together for the first time communities from other South Asian and Caribbean nations.
