Maharashtra BJP president Raosaheb Danve today said his party welcomed Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray’s decision to visit Ayodhya later this month.

He was talking to reporters in Thane as part of his tour, Kalyan and Bhiwandi to take stock of the party’s preparedness for the Lok Sabha elections next year.

Replying to a query whether the Shiv Sena has hijacked the Ram temple issue from the BJP, Mr Danve said, “Nobody can hijack issues. They do their party’s work and we do ours…We welcome Uddhav Thackeray’s decision to visit Ayodhya.”

Mr Thackeray had announced in his party’s Vijayadashmi rally in Mumbai that he would visit Ayodhya on November 25 and “question” Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the temple construction issue.

Replying to a query related to BJP MLA Anil Gote, who has announced his resignation as member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly as well as from the BJP, alleging that “criminals” were being inducted into the party, Mr Danve said such things happen during polls.

“Such things are expected during elections, but no one should take these matters seriously,” he said.

According to him, the decision of selecting candidates rested with the party’s Parliamentary Board. “But we do hear local leaders and elected representatives,” he said.

Mr Gote, who represents the Dhule Assembly seat in Maharashtra, said on November 12 that he would tender his resignation next week. He has been opposing induction of some Nationalist Congress Party leaders into the BJP.

When asked about Shiv Sena’s constant criticism of the BJP despite sharing power with it, Mr Danve said his party’s stand has always been to take all the NDA allies along.

On Shiv Sena’s demand to name the Mumbai-Nagpur Super Communication Expressway, also known as the ‘Samruddhi Corridor’, after party’s late supremo Bal Thackeray, he said, “It will be decided by the government after taking due consent from the leaders of both the parties.”

He added that during his recent tour to Nagpur, Jalna, Aurangabad and other Lok Sabha constituencies in Maharashtra, he found that satisfactory work had been done by booth level party workers.

He said he was likely to complete the tour of all the 48 Lok Sabha constituencies in Maharashtra soon and carry out a review by mid December.

Danve said the party will expand its base across all the Lok Sabha constituencies. “Our endeavour is to get the NDA candidate elected in all the constituencies.”

After Harish Meena, Rajasthan BJP Lawmaker Habibur Rahman Joins Congress

Habibur Rahman (R) joined the Congress at the party’s office in Jaipur today.

In a setback to Rajasthan’s ruling BJP ahead of the December 7 Assembly elections, the party’s Nagaur MLA Habibur Rahman yesterday returned to the Congress after a decade.

Mr Rahman joined the Congress at the party’s office in Jaipur in presence of Ajmer MP Raghu Sharma and other leaders, the same day BJP’s Dausa MP Harish Chandra Meena joined the grand old party in New Delhi.

Mr Rahman was initially a member of the Congress and was a state minister between 2001 and 2003 during the Ashok Gehlot-led Congress government. He joined the BJP in 2008 after he was denied a ticket by the Congress.

He won the 2008 and the 2013 Assembly elections as BJP candidate. But when the BJP denied him poll ticket this time and gave nomination to Mohan Ram Choudhary from Nagaur, Mr Rahman left the ruling party.

“I have returned home today. There is no condition for joining the party,” he said at a press conference.

On whether he will contest the Assembly elections, Mr Rahman rhetorically asked, “Who does not want to contest elections?”

However, Congress MP Raghu Sharma said the party will release its list of candidates for the Rajasthan polls only after the final approval of party president Rahul Gandhi.

Meanwhile, slamming Harish Chandra Meena for joining the Congress, BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Kirori Meena termed the former “an opportunist” and claimed that this would not have any impact of the saffron party’s performance in the state election.

“There will be no impact. People know who is an opportunist and opportunists can go anywhere,” Kirori Meena said.

Hitting back, Congress’ Raghu Sharma said, “Kirori Meena’s wife Golma Devi was a minister in the previous Congress government. He contested the 2013 assembly polls as the candidate of National People’s party and then joined the BJP. He became Rajya Sabha MP and now his wife was given ticket by BJP in its first list. He is the finest example of opportunist.”

Harish Chandra Meena joined the Congress in New Delhi in presence of former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot, the party’s state unit chief Sachin Pilot and All India Congress Committee’s state in-charge Avinash Pande.

A former IPS officer, who headed state police during the Ashok Gehlot government, Harish Chandra Meena had joined the BJP in March 2014 ahead of the Lok Sabha polls and was pitted against his brother Namonarain who was then a Union minister.

He had won the Dausa seat by defeating his nearest rival Kirori Lal Meena, who was then a candidate of National People’s Party by a margin of 45,404 votes while Namonarain Meena had stood third.

list of Congress candidates in the shadow of Rahu-Ketu: BJP

Delegation Led By BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi Meets President Ram Nath Kovind Over 1984 Anti-Sikh Riots Probe

A delegation led by BJP’s Meenakshi Lekhi today met President Ram Nath Kovind. (File)

New Delhi:

A delegation led by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s Meenakshi Lekhi today met President Ram Nath Kovind apprising him about the 1984 anti-Sikh riots probe.

They said even eight months after the Supreme Court appointed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Justice SN Dhingra to probe the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, it has not yet notified the third member.

One of the initially appointed members had expressed inability to join the SIT.

The delegation also comprised ex-Army Chief General JJ Singh, RP Singh, Member Sikh Forum, and Advocates Gurcharan Singh Gill and Rupinder Singh Suri.

The SIT was expected to probe 186 cases in which a closure report was to be filed within two months.

In their memorandum, the leaders said, “The SIT headed by Justice Dhingra was set up in January 2018 and was to submit its report within two months on the cases related to Sikh carnage, 1984.”

“But for reasons best known to them our wait for justice seems eternal as we haplessly watch the accused trying all within their might to influence witnesses,” they added.

It said every single day delayed dashes their hopes of receiving justice with the complicated judicial passage still to open up for Sikhs.

It also alleged that the matter was raised in the court of the Chief Justice twice for notifying the name of the third member of the SIT, but was reprehensibly brushed aside as a non-issue.

“10 vs 1, Who’s Stronger?” Rajinikanth Clarifies on BJP, Still Cryptic

Rajinikanth had announced his political entry on December 31 last year.

Actor-turned-politician Rajinikanth’s response to whether the BJP is such a “dangerous party” that certain political parties are working towards forming an anti-BJP alliance had left reporters confused. “They are thinking so… so it must be so,” the 67-year-old actor-politician had said.

A day later, the actor has clarified that he had meant “opposition parties believe BJP is dangerous, not him”. “People will decide if BJP is a dangerous party,” he said today.

Referring to the national grand alliance by various parties to counter the BJP in the 2019 national elections, the Tamil superstar — seen by some as leaning towards the ruling party at the centre — said “when 10 persons align against one, it’s for you to decide who is stronger”.

“When 10 persons go against one person, who is stronger? Those 10, or the person they are aligning against. If 10 persons declare a war against one man, who is stronger,” he said.

Asked if he meant PM Modi was “stronger”, the actor said he “can’t be clearer”.

Rajinikanth had announced his political entry on December 31 last year and made his debut speech in March. Since then, there has been much speculation about his possible political alliances.

“People keep saying the BJP is behind me. That is not true. Only God and the people are behind me,” he said and assured his followers that his politics will be “spiritual” and based on “honesty and truthfulness”.

Last month, Tamil Nadu’s opposition DMK — which insisted that “spiritual politics” indicated a leaning towards the BJP and its ideological mentor, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) — alleged that Rajinikanth is being supported by communal elements.

The Tamil superstar has refrained from sharing his views on the ruling BJP saying “he isn’t a complete politician yet”.

However, he hasn’t shied away from criticising a government decision that he had supported two years ago. He has called demonetisation as an “incorrect move”.

“The implementation was flawed. It is a matter that should be discussed in detail,” he told reporters.

The actor was among the first to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to scrap Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes with three broad objectives — black money, corruption and terror funding.

BJP Says No Candidate Denied Ticket Due To “Caste, Religion” In Rajasthan

BJP’s first list of 131 candidates was released late Sunday night. (File)

After Bharatiya Janata Party’s first list for the Rajasthan assembly election failed to include a Muslim candidate, the party said Monday that no one was denied an election ticket due to religion or caste.

“It has been the Congress’ policy to distribute tickets on the basis of caste and religion, but the BJP does not believe in any such thinking,” party spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said at a press conference in Jaipur

BJP’s first list of 131 candidates, released late Sunday night, did not feature a Muslim candidate, prompting the Congress to accuse the party of side-lining the community.

Replying to a question on the mediation of spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravishankar on the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title dispute case, Mr Trivedi said the government was ready to accept all the suggestions and solutions given by anyone on the issue.

Mr Trivedi said BJP never made Ayodhya dispute an election issue and asked the Congress to clarify its stand. “The government will help in resolving all the hurdles coming before building the Ram temple, but the issue is now pending before the Supreme Court,” he added.
