Interim Protection From Arrest To Robert Vadra’s Aide Manoj Arora Till February 6

ED’s Special Public Prosecutor sought two more weeks for arguments on the application

New Delhi:

A Delhi court on Saturday extended till February 6 the interim protection from arrest granted to Manoj Arora, a close aide of Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law Robert Vadra, in a money laundering case.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) told Special Judge Arvind Kumar that Arora was cooperating in the probe.

“He joined the probe yesterday. So far he is cooperating,” Special Public Prosecutor D P Singh, appearing for the ED, said.

ED’s Special Public Prosecutor Nitesh Rana sought two more weeks for arguments on the application which was allowed by the court.

Mr Rana said it remained to be seen if Manoj Arora would cooperate further.

The case relates to allegations of money laundering in the purchase of a London-based property — located at 12, Bryanston Square — worth 1.9 million pounds, which is allegedly owned by Vadra, the brother-in-law of Congress president Rahul Gandhi.

In the last hearing, Mr Arora had alleged before the court that the case was foisted on him by the NDA government out of “political vendetta”.

However, the ED refuted the allegations, asking that “should no authority investigate any political bigwig because that will be called a political vendetta?”

The agency had told the court that it lodged the money laundering case against Mr Arora after his role came up during the probe of another case by the Income Tax Department under the newly-enacted Black Money Act and tax law against absconding arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari.

It said the London-based property was bought by Bhandari for GBP 1.9 million and sold in 2010 for the same amount despite incurring additional expenses of approximately GBP 65,900 on its renovation.

“This gives credence to the fact that Bhandari was not the actual owner of the property but it was beneficially owned by Vadra who was incurring expenditure on the renovation of this property,” the ED had told court.

Mr Arora, an employee of Robert Vadra’s Skylight Hospitality LLP, was a key person in the case and he was aware of the latter”s overseas undeclared assets and was instrumental in arranging funds, it had said.

Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora

Sunil Arora said “It is my request to all, please do not make EVMs a football”. (File)

Patna:

Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora on Friday lamented that Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were being treated like a “football” by parties suffering electoral losses, and said the voting equipment was foolproof as far as fears of manipulation were concerned.

Talking to reporters upon the conclusion of his two-day tour of Bihar, the CEC, heading a team of the poll panel, said though EVMs could suffer occasional technical snags, they were promptly fixed.

“It is not possible to manipulate the EVMs. It is definitely foolproof as far as apprehensions of conspiracy and manipulation are concerned. But technical snags are possible as in case of any other device,” he said.

“But the incidence of snags has been very low. In the recent assembly polls in five states, 1.76 lakh EVMs were installed out of which only six reported malfunction. The complaints were promptly taken care of,” Mr Arora claimed.

Asked about apprehensions expressed about EVMs by several parties, he said they had noticed that whenever a party lost an election it started having complaints about EVMs which vanished the moment it won.

“It is my request to all, please do not make EVMs a football,” he said.

He said VVPATs were introduced to address the misgivings that people might have about EVMs.

“The Lok Sabha polls would see the use of these on a still larger scale. The Election Commission is committed to holding the elections in a free and fair manner,” he said.

Replying to a query regarding the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, he said once all preparations are complete and the election schedule drawn, the EC would announce it at a press conference in New Delhi.

He also said during the EC team’s tour of Bihar, instructions were issued for completing the revision of electoral rolls by January 31.

Earlier, on Thursday upon its arrival in the city, the EC team had interacted with representatives of various political parties which had come up with suggestions to improve the poll process.

While the RJD had come out strongly against the EVMs and advocated reverting to the use of ballot papers, the JD(U) had stressed on making VVPATs available at every polling booth.

The CPI came up with an elaborate list of suggestions which included limiting the number of voters in a booth to 800 and setting up mobile polling stations which could be of help to those having difficulty in travelling to their respective booths.

The BJP requested that complaints of anomalies in electoral rolls be seriously looked into and resolved.

A section of the Internet thinks that the picture was taken in Italy, where Malaika celebrated her 45th birthday in October. It was reported that Arjun had also accompanied Malaika to Italy, but they refrained from getting photographed together at the Mumbai airport on their return.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday evening, Malaika partied with her close friends Kareena Kapoor, Karisma, sister Amrita Arora and filmmaker Karan Johar at his residence. Arjun Kapoor too joined the party.

On Karan Johar’s chat show Koffee With Karan 6, Arjun Kapoor confirmed that he is ‘dating’ someone. “A lot that has happened in the family over the last few months and also with me, which has given perspective for me to answer this. I finally feel like I have a sense of belonging and a family,” he said.

Malaika Arora was previously married to actor-filmmaker Arbaaz Khan. They are parents to son Arhaan.

On the work front, Arjun is currently filming Panipat. Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar and India’s Most Wanted are his upcoming releases.

Malaika Arora Instagrammed a picture of kombucha tea.

These days a lot of people are pouring themselves a cup or two of kombucha tea, which is also known as probiotic tea or mushroom tea. This is because the brewing process of this tea causes the bacteria and yeast to grow into a mass that resembles to mushroom head. This probiotic drink is acidic in nature and is full of antioxidants, B vitamins and a little bit alcohol, which comes in as result of the fermentation process. The tea is quite popular in the United States and Europe and can be made easily at home.

Health Benefits of Kombucha Tea:

Boosts Digestion

Kombucha tea is good for digestion. This probiotic tea is known to improve gut health and strengthens immunity. Drinking kombucha tea regularly could help provide relief from indigestion and constipation.
