After Azhar Ali Shocker, Yet Another Farcical Run-Out Has Twitter In Meltdown

Azhar Ali on Thursday hogged the limelight after his shocking run-out during the Pakistan vs Australia 2nd Test became the talk of the town. However, on Friday, another run-out video popped up on Twitter to rival the absurdity of the Azhar Ali run-out. Miles away from Abu Dhabi, where Azhar Ali embarassed himself to no end, Wellington, New Zealand was the scene for the newest viral video. During a Plunket Shield match between Wellington and Otago, all-rounder Nathan Smith and Michael Rippon were involved in a farcical run-out that has fans on Twitter in complete meltdown.

The incident took place in 47th over when Rippon flicked a ball down to fine leg and took off for what looked like a routine double. But while turning at non-striker’s end for the second run, he slipped twice.

Seeing his batting partner’s predicament, Smith tried to stop and turn suddenly but he too slipped in the middle of the wicket. Wellington wicketkeeper Lachie Johns nonchalantly took off the bails as both batsmen were on the ground.

The hilarious incident in New Zealand’s domestic match followed one of the most extraordinary run outs that has ever been seen in the history of Test cricket.

During Pakistan’s second innings, Peter Siddle got Azhar Ali to edge a delivery to third-man. Azhar Ali and batting partner Asad Shafiq were seen chatting in the middle of the pitch, without realising that the ball hadn’t reached the boundary.

Mitchell Starc retrieved the ball and threw it to Tim Paine, who quickly whipped off the bails, much to the shock of Azhar Ali. Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur shook his head in disbelief.

Azhar Ali Explains The Bizarre Run Out During The 2nd Test vs Australia

Pakistan batsmen Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq were involved in a bizarre run out on Day 3 of the second Test against Australia in Abu Dhabi. Cricketers and fans alike were shocked after witnessing the comical run out. Azhar, in the post match press conference, explained what happened in the middle after he edged a Peter Siddle delivery towards the third-man region. “We were just discussing that the ball was swinging a bit late. We both didn’t actually realise something like this could happen. When Mitchell Starc threw the ball even then we didn’t think anything was happening but when it landed in the gloves of the keeper we realised something funny was happening,” Azhar explained.

“The way the shot was hit to a fast bowler and the edge flew I thought it reached the boundary. But there is no excuse. Everyone was pulling our legs in the dressing room but at that moment it was a shock,”Azhar recalled.

“We were not watching the ball and that was the reason I missed the whole sight of it. I wasn’t happy with it and thankfully other batsmen did the job and we laughed about it afterwards. It is kind of disappointing and a shock but also funny,” Azhar further explained.

Azhar, who has played 66 Tests for Pakistan, said he is expecting some teasing from his 10-year-old son after the shocking dismissal.

“My son is going to speak about it (the run out) for a long time and in a funny way,” said Azhar of his 10-year-old son Ibtisam, who arrived at the ground after his father’s dismissal.

“Whenever I will say something about cricket he will surely come back to this incident,” Azhar said.

Azhar denied there was any unsporting behaviour from Australian players in his dismissal.

“I don’t think it was bad sportsmanship and I take full responsibility as I feel I was a bit ignorant. It was nothing at all as no one got in my way or distracted me.

“It was my own doing. I think the Aussies did the right thing.”

Azhar Ali Involved In One Of The Most Extraordinary Run Outs Ever Seen

Pakistan cricket team has been guilty of shooting itself in the foot on numerous occasions in the past. But on Thursday, Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq gave a new meaning to self-destruction. On Day 3 of the second Test between Pakistan vs Australia, being played at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, Azhar Ali and Shafiq were involved in one of the most extraordinary run outs seen in the history of Test cricket. As soon as the run out was completed by Australian captain Tim Paine, scores of fans and former players took to Twitter to reveal their shock.

The incident happened in the 52nd over when Peter Siddle got Azhar Ali to edge a delivery to third-man. The two batsmen were seen chatting in the middle of the pitch, without realising that the ball hadn’t reached the boundary.

Mitchell Starc retrieved the ball and threw it to Tim Paine, who quickly whipped off the bails, much to the shock of Azhar Ali. Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur shook his head in disbelief.

Fans and former cricketers quickly took to Twitter in utter shock at what they had just witnessed.

The run out could have a huge bearing on the match. After dominating the second day of the Test, Pakistan started Day 3 on 144 for two in their second innings, a lead of 281 runs with eight wickets intact.

Nightwatchman Haris Sohail (17) fell to Nathan Lyon in the sixth over of the day.

With Azhar Ali looking solid, having already reached his half-century on Day 2, Pakistan would have hoped for a big partnership between Ali and Asad Shafiq but instead the duo provided one of the most shocking moments in Test cricket.

Farooq Ali Khan, Hyderabad Professor, Uses Animated Sci-Fi Show To Expose Fake Journals

Farooq Ali Khan, a college professor, is a fan of ‘Rick And Morty’, an animated science fiction programme

Bengaluru:

Scientists have at last found a cure for Schlodomoniasis — a deadly brain infection caused by the “inter-galactic parasite Klaousmodium cruzi” — they claim to have identified for the first time.

Beth Smith and co-workers at “Sanchez Institute for Biomedical Sciences for Doopidoo Research” in Morocco have published their discovery in three science journals and also reported a novel method called “Magnetic Oddities Radiation Therapy (MORTY)” to treat the infection. The study was carried out in “Wakandan population”.

If readers are breaking their heads to understand the startling findings and decipher the strange words like “Wakandan” and “Doopidoo”, Farooq Ali Khan, a college professor and PhD student in Hyderabad and a co-author of the paper, had the last laugh.

“It was not intended to be a scientific paper,” he told this correspondent in an email. “It was my sting operation to expose publishers of predatory journals who are churning out fake science for profit.”

Open access journals are supposed to provide an online platform for rapid dissemination of latest updates in science and technology. Their publishers don’t charge the readers as access to these journals is free, but they charge the authors wanting to have their research papers published in these journals.

Inspired by previous publishing “stings”, Mr Khan wanted to test whether open access journals would publish an obviously absurd paper liberally salted with nonsense, for the sake of money from gullible authors anxious to publish.

He created a spoof manuscript titled “Newer Tools to Fight Inter-Galactic Parasites and their Transmissibility in Zygirion Simulation”, and submitted it to several suspect journals from the list kept online by Jeffrey Beall — an associate professor and librarian at the University of Colorado who coined the term “predatory journal” — as a public service to his colleagues.

All the hilarious fake names like “schleem”, “dinglebop” and “schwitinization”, that do not make any sense, as well as images and graphs published in the paper, were fabricated.

The “Zyrgion simulation”, and “intergalactic parasites” are all references to “Rick and Morty” — a US Cartoon Network’s animated science fiction programme about the misadventures of mad scientist Rick Sanchez and his grandson Morty Smith.

Mr Khan, a great fan of “Rick and Morty”, submitted the paper with Beth Smith (Rick’s granddaughter in the cartoon show) as the corresponding author and himself as co-author. Two other authors’ names were made-up, and Sukant Khurana — a scientist at Central Drug Research Institute in Lucknow, who offered to help Mr Khan in this sting, was another author — all affiliated to an institution in Morocco that does not exist.

The so-called “Magnetic Oddities Radiation Therapy” developed by the authors to treat the brain infection is again nothing but an expansion of “MORTY”, a character in the cartoon show.

Anyone with common sense would have noticed all the nonsense and consigned the paper to trash, but Mr Khan surprisingly found it was accepted for publication by 10 journals for fees ranging from $75 to $650.

After some bargaining over fees, three scientific journals — ARC Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, IOSR Journal of Pharmacy and Biological Sciences, and Clinical Biotechnology and Microbiology — published the paper without a second glance.

Mr Khan says his “scientific prank” was intended to expose the seriousness of predatory journal industry and to create awareness among people who are beginning their careers in science. “These predatory journals are polluting the scientific record with junk science and are also resulting in fake news.”

“When the Open Access Declaration was drafted in 2002, no one would have imagined that many unscrupulous individuals would pollute the entire system of scholarly communication with predatory journals solely with the idea of making money,” Subbiah Arunachalam, renowned information scientist and Distinguished Fellow of the Centre for Internet and Society in Bengaluru, told this correspondent in an email.

“Unfortunately, many Indians — both individuals and companies — are in this business,” he said. “Predatory journals pose a big threat to the integrity of research.”

“These are shameful acts by greedy publishers,” Subhash Lakhotia, a professor of zoology at the Benaras Hindu University, told IANS in an email.

“Until we stop payments of all kinds of open access charges and modify the present faulty assessment system that relies on numbers of publications, predation in one or the other form would continue.”

Baby Inaaya Turns One: Mommy Soha Ali Khan Reveals What The Baby Likes To Eat!

Highlights

  • Inaaya turns one today and Soha Ali Khan has much to say about her
  • Soha posted a picture of an adorable board that lists trivia about Inaaya
  • Inaaya’s diet is seemingly healthier than ours

Bollywood actor and author Soha Ali Khan’s daughter Inaaya may be just a year old today, but the little one sure knows how to grab the shutterbugs and hog the headlines every time she makes an appearance. The paparazzi just can’t get enough of the doe-eyed and angel-faced baby, who is celebrating her first birthday today. Inaaya sure is one lucky baby, as she has been gifted with great genes, thanks to her incredibly good-looking parents Soha Ali Khan and Kunal Kemmu. Moreover, her doting parents never seem to get enough of playing around with her and pampering her. Six months ago, the beautiful baby even celebrated a half-birthday party, where her parents spoiled her with gifts and an adorable ‘half birthday cake.’ Now that Inaaya has completed one full year of existence, she is sure to get an even bigger party.

To mark her daughter’s first birthday, mother Soha Ali Khan Pataudi posted a picture of what looks like a chalk board that summarises the baby’s likes and dislikes. Soha Ali Khan complied everything about Inaaya, from her favourite activities to her favourite foods on the board and posted a picture of it on Instagram. What caught our attention was the fact that how healthy the baby eats! As is revealed in the picture, Inaaya liked to eat avocados, pears and yogurt.

Have a look:

Isn’t that absolutely adorable? Everything about this board is incredibly cute and is also enough for us to imagine what a chirpy and lively kid Inaaya must be. Avocados are creamy and smooth and make for perfect baby food, when mashed. It also contains healthy carbs and fats, which are needed for an infant’s body to grow properly. Pears also make for great baby food, as they can cored, peeled and the pulp can be diluted with water and fed to an infant. They are easily digestible and are tasty too. Yogurt is also important to support digestive health of the baby. All in all, Inaaya’s diet may be healthier than ours! Recently Inaaya and Taimur made headlines together for their adorable Rakshabandhan pictures and then pictures of their antics on a Maldives vacation.
