Donald Trump Wishes Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos Luck In His Divorce Amid Affair Buzz

Jeff Bezos and MacKenzie Tuttle announced their divorce after 25 years of marriage. (AFP)

US President Donald Trump wished Amazon Inc founder Jeff Bezos luck in his divorce from his wife MacKenzie, predicting the proceedings will be “a beauty.”

“I wish him luck,” the twice-divorced Trump told reporters at the White House on Thursday as he departed for a trip to the US border with Mexico. “It’s going to be a beauty.”

Bezos and his wife announced they would divorce on Wednesday. Later in the day, the National Enquirer — whose chairman and chief executive, David Pecker, has been a close Trump ally — reported that Bezos has been having a relationship with Lauren Sanchez, a former TV anchor and helicopter pilot and the wife of Hollywood talent agent Patrick Whitesell.

The Enquirer said it had been actively investigating the relationship between Bezos and Sanchez for four months.

The New York Post also reported the relationship and said Whitesell and Sanchez are separated.

Trump has a history of publicly attacking Bezos and his company. The president has criticized coverage of his administration by the Bezos-owned Washington Post, and he’s pressured the US Postal Service to raise the prices it charges Amazon to ship its packages.

Pecker is cooperating with federal prosecutors who are investigating so-called catch-and-kill payments the Enquirer made ahead of the 2016 presidential election to at least one woman who alleged she had an affair with Trump. The Enquirer secured the rights to the material, assuring the allegations wouldn’t be shared with other media, then never published the story.

“Consensual Affair,” Found Probe Against Flipkart’s Binny Bansal: Report

Binny Bansal’s resignation is an embarrassment for Walmart in India.

The co-founder and chief executive officer of e-commerce company Flipkart Group resigned after an investigation into allegations of sexual assault, dealing a blow to owner Walmart Inc.’s ambitions in the country.

Binny Bansal, 37, stepped down immediately following an independent probe into the allegations, which the executive denies, Walmart said. The accusation came in late July, according to a person with knowledge of the matter, who requested anonymity because the details aren’t public. The person said the accuser was a former Flipkart employee, while a second person familiar with the situation said the woman never worked there.

“While the investigation did not find evidence to corroborate the complainant’s assertions against Binny, it did reveal other lapses in judgment, particularly a lack of transparency, related to how Binny responded to the situation,” Walmart said in a statement.

Investigators concluded Bansal and the woman had a consensual affair, the people said.

Bansal didn’t immediately respond to an email seeking comment on the assault allegation. In an email sent out to employees shortly after Walmart announced his departure, Bansal said he would continue to hold his substantial stake in Flipkart and remain a member of its board.

Walmart completed its $16 billion purchase of a majority stake in Flipkart in August in a deal that lifted Bansal’s net worth to $1 billion.

The resignation is an embarrassment for Walmart in one of its most important international markets. Flipkart is in a fierce tussle with rival Amazon.com Inc. as millions of Indians embrace e-commerce, with both retailers pushing to attract consumers with massive discounts and exclusive products. Walmart has placed a huge bet on the unprofitable Flipkart unit, which the company has said will reduce earnings in coming years.

Walmart didn’t detail the nature of the allegations. “This has been an unfortunate and challenging situation for Binny, his family and Flipkart,” the e-commerce provider said in a separate internal note.

Kalyan Krishnamurthy, currently chief of the Flipkart division, a unit of Flipkart Group, will now report directly to the board, Walmart said. A succession plan is being accelerated, said the company, as Bansal had been contemplating a transition for some time.

Krishnamurthy joined Flipkart in 2013 as its interim chief financial officer and then took the lead in January 2017. He spent seven years in EBay Inc.’s Asia finance operations before joining Tiger Global as its finance director in 2011.

Walmart shares fell 1 per cent in New York. The company is scheduled to report quarterly results on Thursday.

‘Same Way’
Bansal co-founded Flipkart in 2007. As recently as October, he said in an interview that he was still in charge of Flipkart and would remain group CEO after the Walmart acquisition.

“Both sides are convinced that keeping Flipkart running independently makes the most sense,” he told Bloomberg. “It’s a board-managed company and decision making is still done the exact same way.”

During the interview, he discussed Flipkart’s strategy to snag the next 100 million customers including using native languages, giving buyers more access to credit and launching inexpensive products under Flipkart’s private labels.

Mitchell Santner Predicts India vs New Zealand Series To Be A High Scoring Affair

“India have performed in England and against (Australia) in conditions similar to New Zealand. It’s (depends on) how quickly they (India) can adapt to those conditions.

“If they can hit the ground running on those home conditions for us, it’s going to make for a very interesting series. It can be a high-scoring series with the nature of grounds and wickets (on offer),” said Santner.

Virat (Kohli) and other Indian batsmen are scoring a lot of runs at the moment and they haven’t been to New Zealand for four years. But they have played all round the country and scored runs everywhere.

“So they will probably like our conditions, where it’s quite flat, with not a lot of turn. And obviously if there’s not a lot of swing, it (series) can be high-scoring. So the batsmen will like it and hopefully the ball swings for us,” added the 26-year-old spinner.

Santner also feels the two teams could take momentum from the series before heading into the 2019 World Cup, which starts in England at the end of May.

“The series will be a good test for both the sides leading into the World Cup and I guess in similar conditions. Both the teams will be looking forward to the competition and to take some momentum into the World Cup,” he added.

On a personal note, Santner, who is recovering from a knee injury, hopes to return to action during the India series. “Been out for a while, it’s been nine months. So have been back training and cricket is not too far away. Hopefully will join the home summer and get back for this Indian series and try and get some wickets,” he noted.

According to Santner, India have a “strong batting line-up” and the key for the visitors, with wrist spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal in operation, will be to get wickets in the middle overs. “With the nature of flat wickets, the wrist spinners can spin the ball both ways. The key in ODI cricket is to get wickets in the middle (overs).

“The wrist spinners – they might leak a lot more runs but have the option (chance) of getting more wickets (too),”he said.

All-rounder Corey Anderson, on his part, said he would like to be in New Zealand’s 2019 World Cup team.

“If I stay fit, I would love to be involved in that team (of the World Cup). I have the experience of being (in the team) for the last World Cup.

“If I am playing my best cricket, I can do a very good job for New Zealand and help balance out the side,” Anderson reckoned.
